Poster: A snowHead

Did a search and couldnt see much so apologies if this has been covered to death
I'm thinking of getting some boots and possibly some skis as well. Dont know a great deal about what I need, though i've had 5 weeks skiing on various rental equipment so have at least some starting point. Looking for a store that will give me honest advice on what I need.
Are there any reccommended stores to visit in london or hertfordshire that will offer decent impartial advice, boot fitting etc and hopefully some late summer sales?
I like the look of edge and wax though it's a fair old way to drive just to potentially have a looksy

I bought a pair of boots from Ski Bartlett in Hillingdon last season, they seemed pretty good. I knew what I wanted and they were able to make sure they fitted and make a basic Comformable footbed for me, so I was happy. If you had "problem" feet I'm not sure how good they'd be, I don't know how they compare to some of the specialist boot fitters. They did seem to have a big range of boots and skis and were pretty patient and helpful.

Mr White, for boots one decent place is profeet
http://www.profeet.co.uk/skiing
The guy who designed the X Wave series works there, and that's one good series IMHO.
Skis a different matter and snow and rock long acre have good staff. They will take what you say about your skiing very seriously so be very honest about level. They have some sale stock.

valais2,if in London Pro feet are the best, but at a price, if you are skiing all season they can't be bettered, my son is a ski instructor (who is Swiss) and always gets his boots here, but 47 degrees are also really good.

Mr White, another recommendation for Ski Bartlett, who have some cracking deals on skis at the moment, though Hillingdon isn't exactly in London and I haven't heard much about them in relation to bootfitting. Profeet come well recommended for boot fitting, as valais2 says, and they're in Fulham, ie 'proper' London! Otherwise, if getting to Bicester from Hertfordshire isn't too much of a problem, then solutions4feet are consistently recommended on here.

By way of a bonus, Profeet is very close to 47degrees so you can visit them both easily enough.
Check online for cheap skis. There are places in France and Germany that will ship to the UK cheaply and have plenty of stuff going cheap; you could probably do worse than ask for ski advice on the forum if you don't mind getting lots of conflicting and inconsistent advice

thanks for the suggestions. hillingdon isnt too far from me so might take a look. 47 degrees seems good value at £45 for a custom footbed if im reading that right

Yes, but we make good tea and have 3 village pubs within 2 miles, and Brighton down the road
Our 2013 stock started arriving today, we should be fully stocked shortly.
Feel free to give us a buzz if we can help.

scottydog, I didn't know you were in Sussex. My parents live in Ditchling, I'll definately pop in when I am next over to see them.

A good idea, when you buy boots, is to go and try them afterwards on an indoor ski slope and take them back to have any slightly painful pressure points blown out. They should be prepared to do that.
I bought my last boots at Ellis Brigham at the Milton Keynes snowdome and did that, but they may not have as much expertise as others that have been mentioned (I just don't know). Ellis Brigham and Snow and Rock (already mentioned) are the two big ones (with several stores ).
