Celebrating 4 decades of skiing at Hillend. Sounds like fun, taking place this coming weekend. Anyone going? Free competitions, beer tent, bbq, what more could a self-respecting skier possibly ask for...

Took a look at the Hillend website and found this silly photo!
Obviously caring for her young son has left Emma so knackered that she hasn't the strength to undo her bindings before stopping for a cuppa!

4 decades - wow. I must have skied it in the first 5 years of operation. Good that it has survived. Thanks for the news of a potentially great event PG but not for the reminder of my age.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

my wife's teaching at it - pretty much all instructors on duty - so sounds like's it's going to be v. busy- it's free lessons and admission for all - so a great event/recruitment drive for the slope. I wish them every success, more revenue would be fantastic for the longer term, as much needed upgrades are needed on matting etc. Good initiative, needs to be kept up with equally smart trial and frequency of visit programmes as the council run team have been a bit lacklustre in their efforts (red tape I fear) for too long.

Kramer, ah, got you. I learned at Hillend as well. I haven't been up for years, quite looking forward to it.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It was twenty five years ago for me, I suspect that it's changed a bit in the years in between.

As dry slopes go, it's one of the better ones.

yeah I think I might try to get up there at some point. If I'm back here next summer I might do an instructors course and see If I can do some instructing up there. Just one of many ideas I have for next summer though...
