Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

For all but the dedicated shopper, Friedrichshafen is the most fantastic airport - small, clean, and with excellent food available. And it's in a big plain, thus avoiding the freak-out factor of flying into Innsbruck! Really easy transfer from there to St Anton etc.

Yep, by good food I presume you mean the Italian with the stereotyped semi grumpy waiter who refuses to speak English or German to you? Very Happy

Excellent pizza for like 7 euro

Actually has anyone ever gotten the train from there to St Anton, I believe it requires a few changes, is this correct?

Monarch are the worst airline I've ever flown on, smaller pitch than Ryanair, only airline I've ever travelled on that left luggage behind on purpose, Worst 'food' it's been my misfortune to inspect (note: not eaten). Would rather eat my own faeces than travel with them.

rogg, must have changed a lot since I flew with them on SOPiB11, then (though I can't recall if I tried the food). Anybody else flown with Monarch recently? What did you think of them?

Markymark29, My friends hired a car when they flew in there, and got stung at the border for not buying a vignette.....

achilles, erm, maybe it's the other way round, ie they've changed for the better. Last time i flew with them was charter, Dublin to either Grenoble or Lyon in 2010. they seem to be hte charter of choice for Crystal here - who are the cheap last minute booking of choice for me. I know, you get what you pay for.......... Laughing

Markymark29, have done train car and bus. The two times by car took around 2.5 hours from memory due to big jams on the tunnel entering Austria from Germany. Train was easy if a little 'slow' due to changovers. Think if you can avoid peak Saturdays, the roads are a doddle.

Slightly off topic but still on the subject of new-flights-to-vaguely-ski-related-destinations - did anyone spot the recent announcement that Danube Wings are starting flights from Cambridge to Dole-Jura?

I didn't know either of these existed, but Dole-Jura is within striking distance of the Northern French Alps. No idea how it compares on price to Geneva, would have to be a lot cheaper to make up for the additional transfer.

sanman, Just been on the Danube Wings website because I just cant get my head around a Slovakian airline flying between France and the UK. On the booking site Cambridge is listed as Cambridge(London) Puzzled so anything south of the wash appears to be a gateway to London.

Planning on going to Hochgurgl again this December and was thinking about Friedrichshafen as an option as it's quite a bit cheaper than Innsbruck for flights and car hire. Google maps has it at about 2hrs 45 mins - Is that right? Is it a fairy easy drive? Is there anything I should know about?

Thanx

mauddib, they didn't used to include snow tyres from Friedrichshafen , like they would in Austria(this may have changed with the law change in Germany), so this needed pre-booking and was an extra cost.

Mauddib.I've driven in the past, Should be ok if you can avoid peak periods, Typically Saturday, and holiday public/school dates in Germany/Holland. I'm Pretty sure that there used to be a bus from the main Innsbruch terminal to Ober/hochgurgl .
