Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Atomic Crimson TI versus Head i.Peak 78 PR Pro

Has anyone tried both of these skis? Which do people recommend?
I want an all-purpose travel ski for typical resort skiing. I want all mountain capability and still be able to enjoy piste cruising when tired or with friends.

Atomic Crimson Ti in 171 length... 130.5/88/116 with 16 radius

Head i.Peak 78 PR Pro in 171 length... 124/78/110 with 14.6 radius

any comments or skiing experience regarding these 2 skis would be greatly appreciated

The desire is an all purpose travel ski that can be enjoyed at resorts the entire season and in all resort conditions. Primarily on slopes but would like to challenge some bowls and get off path occasionally.

Hi Topshelf,
I've been using the Crtimson Ti this season. So Far Has proven very versatile in a variety of conditions from early season in Canada, mid season in Austria, and late season in Revelstoke. Works well for me on everything from moguls to powder.
Really I've no negative points to raise so far. As an indication I'm 1.65cm, 75Kg, advanced level, I was skiing on the Blackeye for a couple of season, the additional width really benifits iff piste/powder/soft snow.

topshelf,
I don't know much about the Heads, but I can tell you the Atomics really can do everything well. In fact very well indeed. To get the best from them, you need hi-intermediate or above skills, but if this is you then these skis will not disappoint. I suspect they will outperform the heads in powder and crud and yet they will still grip like mad on the piste for carving. Personally I feel the 88mm underfoot is more 'all mountain versatile' than the 78mm on the heads.

Thanks for the feedback... I was hoping this would generate a discussion.

I'm 6' 2" and 215 lbs.... I'm a hockey player and play hockey or train nearly every day so I'm athletic. I'm new at skiing but am learning very quickly. I want good equipment but don't want to spend a fortune on multiple skis. I'm looking for a good all-purpose ski that I can train and develop on locally so I can enjoy the most of my ski trips to Colorado and Utah. I really appreciate peoples input and information. Like I said, I'm a beginner but am learning very quickly. There are local easy slopes where I can train and develop. I want a good all-purpose travel ski to work on. thanks for any guidance.

add the Volkl Kendo to the discussion

sounds like the Atomic Crimson TI versus the Volkl Kendo is a better comparison

Thoughts anyone?

I've Crimsons, not TI (mine are the first model, the TI version was introduced in the second year). They are good skis, good all-around capabilities. You can do slalom turns. but they really favor longer turns, especially if the snow is more variable. The TI should be better at crud busting. The Head sounds better for tighter spots or skiing v slowly with beginners but I wouldn't count on them helping you out in deeper snow.
Have you skied before on wider skis (say over 85 mm, not that wide)?
