Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What a great thing to do. Very Happy

k1orange, Hope you don't mind, but I've posted a link back to this in the disability snowsports thread as it seemed very relevant

ok, so how to you get on the chair lift in that?

The issue also is that a lot of people that are seated for long periods have issues with blood pressure. As soon as i am in an upright position all the blood goes to my feet and i pass out, so sitting skiing works for me.

Actually i dont agree with the whole needing to ski like other people. I have had so many people want a go in my monoski because it looks cool! I can kick back bottom on mountains. Even if i was standing in that frame i still wouldnt be skiing like everyone else so i am still different.

just my opinion

Just a quick few words regarding ski frames. Thay have been in use in adaptive skiing for many years now and it is nothing new. First one have been converted from regular zimmer frame by attaching skis to it. They have evolved through the years but general principals stayed the same - skier skis in stand up position and are assisted from 1 up to 4/5 instructors/helpers by teathers or extra poles. It is a great way of skiing for someone who wants to ski in a stand up position but because of the disability is not able to independently. The only problem, is that skier using 'adapted zimmer frame' is very limited to slopes that can ski on (mainly to very gentle terrain) and hasnt got much independence Sad
As well as ajl338 mentioned this type of equipment is not suitable for all disabled people (depending on their disability they might not be able to do it - spinal cord injuries, CP and many others). Therefore sit ski will be the best option for them as well as for many of disabled people whom skiing independently and doing red, black runs, off piste and skiing all the mountain is the most important, although they are using sit ski.
It is great that more people are invloved in adaptive skiing and that students are interested in developing adaptive field!
Good luck and waiting to hear about some new solutions that will make skiing even more accessible!
