 Poster: A snowHead

Looking to fix a sticky mount on my new helmet,only to discover its a poor match for the curvature...unlike my old lid which was spot on. I will end up with a gap on both sides from reduced contact. Guessing this must be fairly common? Anyone know of a workable solution?

I have the same issue with my helmet (Dianese), the curved mount doesn't quite align, there's around 1mm each down each side of the mount that doesn't touch.
I stuck mine on anyway, used some electrical tape wrapped right round the mount and helmet as tightly as I could and let it set overnight in a warm cupboard. It still seems to have stuck well, I used it for two or three days with no problems. I was aware of the imperfect fit, and did check the mount regularly though!

I have the same issue on my helmet - a small gap each side not making contact. However it still sticks really strongly. I had to remove the previous sticky pad to re-position it and could hardly get it off. I was surprised as I thought it wouldn't have held so tight.

Dummy cord the camera to the helmet so if the mount does fail you won't lose the camera.

meh, Yes,I do that anyway...though have often wondered why there is no dedicated tether point?
Currently investigating adititional sticky pad to fill the gap.

spyderjon, considering that for mounting on a ski, then using as a tripod mount, would this have much of an impact on the structure of the ski?

Nope but I'd recommend a wide bracket/plate mounted in two either inline or diagonal inserts with 10mm edge to edge seperation.

Good idea.
I have the same issue on a Bolle helmet, hasn't come off yet though.
What about a chesty mount?

This is why I won't go Go-Pro - just don't like the mounts...
mag1882, spyderjon, abou ski camera mounts - not a bad idea, i've mounted a cam on a board before now by moving the binding back a little and exposing a free binding screw hole - similar idea to whats been suggested... Only thing is the board did transmit alot of vibration to the camera, and i'd imagine the ski would be the same, so you may not get great footage...

Richard_Sideways, yeah when i used an adhesive mount on a pair of stiff skis they shook about like crazy on the end, was wondering if that would be sorted by mounting it TO the ski, also if the camera is in the same place the whole time you could just use image stabilization afterwards and set the track point to yourself(if you were pointing it at yourself) not as good as being steady but still would be quite good

This is why i always prefer head or helmet mounts. the head is naturally stablised.

true, but not perfectly again, the only way you'll get it to look good is if you use some form of steadycam
