Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Experience 83 - sizing

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Interested in some Rossi Experience 83s, but not sure on the sizing for so called rocker skis these days. Last skis I got was about 2005 (Atomic Metron heavy beasts).

Their own size guide places me at the 160 based on weight (66kg) and say to move up if you're more advanced/aggressive which I'd say I sort of am, so 168. They also say to factor height but don't say how. I'm 5'7" so should that move me up or down a size or stay the same?

The Atomics I got before were 172 which is just a fraction over my height (5'7" = 170), yet many things I read say you should be looking at ski heights more around forehead these days, yet others are telling me I want much longer. I thought long was the old trend for race skis but anyway.

I'm looking for far more off-piste where I can (I know powder is a rarity, but that's why I go to Utah to stand a chance of a few days of it). I'm not a racer and fast on piste isn't really a priority.

Dilemma is I can get the 83 for dirt cheap but only from 176 size upwards. Seems too long really.

Any advice?

Of course it's hard to try them. Aside from lack of places doing them when I was out skiing this year, back home there are no decent options. Unless I can squeeze in a late season deal but there's not going to be any powder now even if I could find a place that demos them in the Alps. If anything from about now onwards I may as well take a bike to the alps.

I skied them twice this year. I'm 1.78m and 80kg. In Feb I had 168s and in March 160s (just what they had in the shop).

Enjoyed them both and in a lesson with the hire shop owner (who I have known over 10 years) asked for advice on length. He reckoned either were OK for me - 160 recommended for on piste 168 for a bit of on/off.

Really liked them but reckon 176 might be a bit long for you

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I bought some this year and really like them. Am about the same size and height as DJL and bought 168's. My previous skis were 165's and shop owner in resort who I have known 8 years said that rockers should be a few cms longer than previous generation skis

Cheers guys. Sounds like 168 would work. 160 is a fair bit shorter than my last skis but they may have been a bit long.

Where to buy though. Need the end of season sales.

I got some from snowandrock for about £260 about ten days ago and they reused my rossy fixings from the old skis..
