Hi Snowheads,
Heading off for St Patrick's day and may end up in Ischgl but don't want to miss out on the Moose and the rugby on Paddy's day.
Anyone any idea how much a taxi from Ischgl to St Anton would cost and would it be easily obtained? Would there be any prospect of a minibus or larger taxi as there will be a fleet of us?
Failing that, anyone think the rugby would be viewable in Ischgl, heard almost no-one speaking English last time I was there so I fear not...
Thanks in advance

8611, have a chat with these guys.

Rough guess would be about 70/80 euros?
And more likely than not it will be a minibus.
Only place I can really imagine seeing the rugby would be at Scotty's in St Anton. It is however on German TV (or was the last two years) so you might be able to watch it in your hotel.

Quite a few places show the rugby in St Anton, Cuba sometimes have it on, Fang, Dooleys (in HD). Does depend on what football games are on too tho.

8611, there's a bar called 'The Londoner' or something like that in Ischgl that I think showed sport...
My guess for the taxi would be well over 100€

Jacksy's Bar down the street opposite the Schwarzer Adler in St. Anton has Sky Sports, BBC, ITV and shows most games Rugby, Premier League, even Cricket if you want. Bar owner Hannes Spiess will gladly help out with requests. Get there early for big games.

8611, more used to bavarian stag parties and euro-hookers
Cabs in the alps tend to be pretty pricey...

A minibus taxi from Ischgl to Landeck cost us €68 this morning and I would guess at about €50 from Landeck to St. Anton, so well over €100 each way. Someone recently said on here that the Solaria hotel in Ischgl shows the Rugby but I can't confirm.

Corky, though you wouldn't go via Landeck to get to St Anton from Ischgl by taxi.
Easiest thing to do is contact taxi company for a quote.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

nozawaonsen, I know, but you almost have to go into Landeck to get there so I reckon still over €100.

I think I should just give in and stay in St Anton, maybe head up to Ischgl for a day. I mean the attraction in St Anton is booze, the attraction in Ischgl is just skiing, the latter is consistent with driving the former not.
Do people have any views on how much better the snow conditions would be in Ischgl? Freezing temp due to be higher than any of the slopes in St Anton next week, Ischgl seems about 300m higher on average which I think would mean their upper slopes would be better and there would be more of them.
Any ideas?

8611, the main advantage of Ischgl is that much of the skiing does not start till 2000m and is north facing which is why it often runs through to early May. That said there is plenty of higher altitude skiing in St Anton, Zurs and Lech.
Either way though as clarky999, suggests I'm not sure this is really an issue at this stage? It will be warm and sunny next week and should be very pleasant. Snow will start hard and then get softer through the day. Follow the sun and hit the terrace later in the day. Ischgl is just as boozy as St Anton.
If there will however be a fleet of you and you are talking next week I might be lead more by where I could find easy accommodation.
A final thought about switching between Ischgl and St Anton is lift tickets. If you buy a week long pass for one and go to the other mid week you'll lose a days skiing so ideally make sure you do so at the beginning or end of the week (which might tie with St Patrick's Day) and only get a 5 or 6 day pass.
Sounds like you will have a great trip either way.

Thanks noz, we are only going for four days anyway. To be honest I was in ischgl in January so I would kind of prefer St anton. I have also never skied lech or zurs and would like to. I think you're right though, it might just come down to whichever can accommodate us better. At the moment my eight emails are all from pettneau and flirsch. But if I have a car and am intending on hitting lech and zurs anyway maybe that's not such an issue.
