Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Two children injured in sledge accident in Les Gets

Our thoughts must go out to their parents, crashing into the rear of a grooming machine doesn't bear thinking about .

In all French ski resorts it is a by-law to be on the pistes after 17:55, the time at which piste grooming normally starts

Anyone know if this is correct?

I've broken that law almost every ski trip (I know the original typo is Morznet not yours).

Not quite sure what the parents were doing letting their kids sledge on a slope being bashed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's the law in our neck of the French woods, for sure - there are signs in all the mountain restaurants. Have to be off the slopes long before 1755. Sounds a horrendous accident - but doesn't actually say the piste basher was grooming - even if it was stationary, it's a huge thing to bash into.

Sledging is pretty dangerous - I reckon. Only serious injury in our family was sledging - badly smashed ankle needed expert surgery and ironmongery insertion in Innsbruck Hospital (where they did a fine job, though son said conditions were a little Third World. wink ).

I only learnt about this today but we had heard the helicopter at about 8 p.m. on Saturday evening and thought it was unusual as it was dark and commented that it must have been something serious - just through some trees and not far from us - during the day we can see the slopes at La Turche.

Heard more but really not keen on repeating hearsay.

The Morznet report has been updated now by Chris Thompson (who I think is Ski Famille boss) who says:

Pleased to be able to report that one child
is now out of hospital and the other is off the critical list. Horrible
accident.

which is much better news and heaps better than what I had heard yesterday.

skimom, Probably near by, what's your point? I never actually sit on the sledge with ours at that age

Our kids, along with half the village, sledge on the bottom of the piste up to around 6 many evenings, there are the occasional piste bashes go past. Pleased to hear the positive report, this was obviously just an accident, they happen.

Talking to a surgeon in Switzerland recently, having watched the helivac arrive with monotonous regularity, a comment of "skiers?" was greeted with, "heavens no!, sledgers, much more seriously messed up. Skiing's safe!"

Boredsurfing, On the Morzine / Les Gets piste map it specifically says in English and French "The ski area is out of bounds outside of ski lift opening hours".

As other have said - glad to hear that the kids are on the mend.
