Well, I managed to stay away from the site for the summer to keep my sanity. ;o)
So - my plans for this season:
15 Oct - Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard Show - get girlfriend to go on the beginners slope for a first go! Me - try to avoid buying *another* pair of skis.
Nov - "crash" course for girlfriend at MK Snowdome..
Early Jan - maybe Tignes for a week with new ski addict (I hope..) girlfriend.
Mid Jan for 2 weeks - Army Divisional Alpine Skiing Championships, first time I'll have ever raced... not expecting to qualify for Army championships but would certainly be very nice!!
Feb/Mar - Norway for two weeks to do Tour Leader Training and Advanced Nordic - all so I can become a Army Alpine Instructor 06/07 Season..
Apr - Cry and try to forget about skiing for another 6 months!

IanB,
You could look at this problem from a different angle. I got my girlfriend (Now Wife) hooked about 6 years ago, now it cost me a bloody fortune paying for both of us to go!!!
So beware!!!!!!!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I wonder if it would be a better idea to take your girlfriend directly to the mountain, and skip the snowdome stuff? Cause I could easily see a snow dome turning a begginer off, whereas it's pretty hard not to love skiing on an actual mountain.
On the flip side, if she still wants to go to Tignes, she'll have the first couple days out of the wy, and should be able to hit some more interesting slopes. So it's a tough call. No matter what, make sure she has some good lessons for the first few days.

IanB, are you in Serre Chevalier for the Army ski championships? We quite often bump into army guys there in January.

IanB, some of you were great at going downhill, but didn't know how to stop.....................Don't think we'll be around this year though.

I think that may have something to do with how we're "taught" how to ski!! I think I was lucky having a civillian instructor in a military enviroment - best of both teaching techniques:
Step 1: This is how you turn and stop.
Step 2: This is known as a Black Run. See you at the bottom.
...military instructors tend to skip the first step..
