Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gullies - The best thing about Scottish skiing......

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Having had another great weekend in Scotland ticking of another couple of gullies (despite the delightful weather), what are the next 'must do' gullies in Scotland?

The ticked list is still pretty short:

Aladdin’s Couloir
Jacob’s Ladder
Number 4 Gully
Easy Gully (Creag Meagaidh)

The ‘to do’ list stands at:

Raeburns (Creag Meagaidh)
Castlegates (to be combined with at least one climb in an attempt at an alpine style enchainment)

So, what are the real classics I should be looking at? Any Grade II (climbing grade) gullies that are worth a look?

On the Ben - Tower Gully, and if you are feeling cheeky (and the ice step has gone to snow) #2 gully - usual caveats apply...

The best thing about Scottish skiing is it's in Scotland & happily, that's where I live. Laughing

As for gullies, I've never skied it & don't know if I could or would (it's difficult to judge whether that's a 40 degree slope or a 65 degree one) but I do love this little solo home video of the Pinnacle Gulley at Braeriach in the 'Gorms. It's just so Scottish spring snow Little Angel ...

Yep, Tower Gully on the Ben is a must-do. Number 5 looks sweet too if there's enough snow down to low level.

I didn't realise there was another Pinnacle Gully on Braeriach. The one skiing down into Loch A'an is pretty cool as well.

I'd buy a climbing guidebook as it should let you come up with some awesome links. Although I'd say climbing one of the ridge routes then skiing one of the gullies on the Ben would be the best 'alpine' experience.

I'd also go off and find some in less skied areas. Very Happy

i climbed a gully on the north side of Liatach a few years ago which would have been a pretty good ski. doubt it sees much skier traffic either

Also a touch of googling to find Pinnacle Gully on Braeriach lead me here:

Which seems to be done by the same guy who owns the YouTube account.

On the Ben - Tower Gully,

We had a look at this two weekends ago but the snow got really icy/poor and it had a fair bit of debris in it (rocks) so we bailed from halfway (-ish, vis was pretty poor so no idea really). Glad we did as the snow in No. 4 was great and the cornice non-existant so it was a really good ski from the top.

BOOM, what a good find!

I've got a climbing guide as that's what I normally do on weekend forays north of the border but that's changing.

Cheers for all the replies, the tick list is increasing!

You've missed out Ben Lui central gully which I've ascended but not descended. One of the finest hills in the country.

I've only done y-gully in Coire Kander which was entertaining enough although the gradient eases after the 1st 10m or so.
