Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

davidof, You haven't had so many replies so if it helps my kids recreationally skied Fischer RC4's this year which we bought deliberately long to last a couple of years and they were fractionally above head height on both of the kids.

davidof, Think Okanagan son is racing and all the kids who are, have GS Skis above their heads , my son skis 155 GS RC4's and they are about 10cm above the top of his head , he does have 160cm and he thought they were more stable when training but he has never compared them on a timed run. Asked the wee man and he said if it was piste skiing only and having fun carving then 5cm above head height would be good.

Scot_Ski, You are quite correct: oski is racing. But his skis are short compared to some: we know of one girl who is the same age and height as him but skiing them in 165cm rolling eyes

RobW, think the kids need to choose what best suits, most of the top CH1 kids are racing on +15-20cm on GS (think OSKI is a mini). Is it right? I don't know and not sure, but all the European CH at national events are on taller than 'them' skis. The main point is if they can ski a clean line without skidding (not talking about pivot) then the ski is good, as you said , you can clip into a long ski , but can you ski it. Dont get me wrong, many can and show it when skiing and racing ...... long or short..... techniquie will always win and at a young age get the techniquie right first.

Scot_Ski, Yes - think oski could probably handle longer (but he'll have to put up with them for this season!). On timed runs he's consistently quicker than his training partners who are on longer versions of the same ski.

Interesting. At my local club the kids don't seem to ski GS skis that much taller than their height.

Had my son on a Pair of Salamon Enduro 144cm this year (2 day rental to try 'em out), He's 1.5m. although theyt are Adult skis and therefore heavier than his Volkl Racetigers (140cm), he liked them. Worked better off piste, and improved gliding ability.

davidof,

That's true at our race club too. for 9 and 10 yr olds they recommend no taller than head height, and even smaller around eyebrow height.

Definately under head height for slalom (or dual purpose) skis . But GS skis for racing - I'd say for strong skiers with good carving skills up to about 10cm over. A quick scout around the net found this which seems to support that theory.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Okanagan,

Seems like its a contraversial subject with people swinging both ways. Our club publishes their guidelines at the beginning of each season. Maybe its one of those things that varies between countries, just different approaches.
