Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

BBC Weather-wintersports

Poster: A snowHead
I must say that the grammer and punctuation on the BBC Weather -Wintersports website has been diabolical this season! The flowery language, HUGE sentences and school boy grammer are really starting to wind me up.

Example:

It should, on the whole, be a lovely week of clear blue skies and pleasant skiing for France and Italy.

A similar weather theme is expected for Austria and Switzerland.

However, on Thursday 23rd February, cloudy skies are expected to return over the vast majority of resorts in these countries, and the clouds could bring scattered snow flurries.

Unfortunately a handful of Austrian resorts could experience rain as temperatures are expected rise into positive digits for the first time in weeks

Why write "on the whole"?

Why not say, " France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland", instead of that second line?

Why write "However" and "vast" in this long sentence?

I'm sure the BBC could employ somebody with a degree in the English language. Gggrrrrr!

RWDLYN, that's spelt grammar. First rule of ranting... wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Why not pick out "experience " instead of have [ crisper Plain Eglish]. Space does not experience anything. It`s a reification. Only sentient beings "experience". Syntax and semantics are no worse than many comments on the site. Should rage about things that are important.

Arctic Roll, What is more, there is nothing wrong with the grammar.

It is actually the style he is objecting to, rather than the grammar.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

RWDLYN, Why are you looking at a general BBC website for snow info - there's a wide number of better places too look - for example http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/snow_reports.php? where you actually get live updates from people skiing you're resort right now..
