Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Savoie Holidays - Catered Chalets

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - Has anyone ever stayed in a catered chalet with Savoie Holidays? I am interested in booking a chalet in les arcs or la plagne but I cant seem to find any reviews (good or bad) or them - so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. #

Thank you

Stayed in their chalet in La Plagne in January this year. Would recommend it, decent food, nice chalet, comfy beds, all en-suite, enough seats in the lounge for everyone, boot driers all round, company good to deal with etc.

Was about 5 painful mins walk from the piste but that is reflected in the price so no complaints.

Thank you very much for your reply!

Mainly looking for a company who provide good wholesome meals (dont want picture food), with plenty to go around and who dont skint on the wine! Cooked breakfasts and good quality cakes for tea!
Clean and comfy bedrooms that are not ridiculously small.
Dont mind short walk to lift, we will have our cars so could poss drive?
Would you say this fits the bill??

Thank you

Cooked breakfasts

I don't think many budget style chalets offer major cooked breakfasts every day. Maybe porridge one day, eggs another, etc The more you pay, of course, the fancier you can legitimately expect the meals to be. If a cooked breakfast is important, I'd ring them and ask.

5 minutes walk from the piste is really not very far. Shocked

True. But anybody over the age of 8 who can't (or rather won't) carry their own skis either needs a kick up the bum or a new hobby.

We stayed with them last year in Les Arcs (you can avoid carrying skis up to the lift if you're careful about where you hire from - see previous Peisey thread I posted on) and the previous year in Tignes. Chalets are very nice and modern for the price, staff are friendly and looked after us well, food was excellent (cooked option available every day) and the wine was decent too. And they were pretty liberal about how many bottles you could have Toofy Grin

Wouldn't hesitate to book again - only reason we're not using them this year is because they don't have any chalets in Italy!

PM me if you want any specifics, and I'll see what I can remember.

Dippy, Yep - It fits the bill.

-The walk to the piste wasn't worth driving (the car would be parked a 3 min walk in the opposite direction from the chalet anyway!) but the walk to the main lift in 1800 involved some treacherous steps. OK on the way down but horrible on the way up after some apres at La Mine. The bus back was a better option then. Since there was so much snow in Jan, we discovered it was quicker to ski (don't tell the rozzers!) down the path/road the chalet was on to the piste above the lifts rather than walk down the road.
-Evening meals were wholesome and we were not hungry. No badly executed fancy french stuff.
-They didn't skimp on the wine (neither did we!) Embarassed

- Breakfasts certainly weren't what you would call a "full English" but again there was plenty to eat if you had some cereal as well. Don't expect sausage, eggs, bacon and beans everyday.

-Worth knowing that the Sport2000 in 1800 is right by the piste and has free ski lockers if you hire from them so you don't need to lug your skis back to the chalet each day.

Scarlet, Hi Scarlet - many thanks for your post. We are looking at staying in chalet Richermoz les arcs - Dont know if this is the chalet you stayed in (?) but if it was can you remember what the walk to the lift/piste was like please - and how many lifts were there to take before you were truly off and away skiing?? We dont have the option of leaving our skis in a shop as we all have our own. Its the only thing thats putting me off this chalet at the moment. However we will have our cars so wonder if there is any chance of driving???

And .... one last question - regarding the catering - where the meals sufficient in quantity - in other words was there plenty to go around or was it 'picture' food.

Any replies / thoughts greatfully received.

Thank you

Dippy, Only just seen this, but have replied to your PM.

In addition, by the time you have loaded your car up with kit and unloaded again at the lift, you probably could walk! Not sure how much snow there is in the village at the moment, but if there isn't much, maybe take a pair of lightweight shoes to walk in and then put them in your backpack?
