Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

chamonix in April

I know chamonix reasonably well, but not skied there late in the season.Planning an early april trip somewhere for few days and wondered if anyone had experience of skiing there in April.I assume that valley runs would be closed but wonder generally if conditions can be quite good (I know no-one has a crystal ball!)

There will be plenty of good skiing in Chamonix during the first week of April.

Valley runs can be iffy in April, especially on the sunny side, but with this years snow pack I'm betting there'll be no excuse to download from the GM until the very end of April.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I would put money on the home runs being shut, except GM which is a cannoned base. Also I'd consider putting money on all areas except GM being closed if the odds were good, by that I mean they prob will have riding open on freeze/thaw conditions but if there is little snow in March they could very well close. Last year on the 7th of April the Le Tour and Flegere areas had closed, Brevent and GM were still open.

If it's a bargain I'd go for it (which if your planning DIY Cham will prob come in cheaper), if the usual high resorts are around the same price I'd opt for one of them!

Just to add Les Houches was also closed and to point out that last year was a bad snow year.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Knee Deep, as others are suggesting, it's pretty variable. I've skied mid April in Chamonix 3 years of the last 4, and I've skied at least some powder every time (and in one case, it was the best powder of the season). I didn't go last year though (lucky call, rather than inspired forecasting!).

My view when booking has always been easy come easy go - Chamonix is a big place and if the snow is poor then I'll go hiking or biking, or go just relax in what I think is one of the nicest ski towns in the alps. If it's your only skiing of the year and you're desperate for it to be good then I'd do as under a new name says and what until very near the time to decide for sure.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

There'll def be something to ski on, particualry higher up down in the valley it could be variable-but who know's how things will be in April? I'm hoping the way things have been that it will be a loooooong season!
