Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Nostalgia Skiing!

On 14th and 15th January the 5th Nostalgie Ski WM (Nostalgia Ski World Championships) was held in Leogang. More than 260 participants took part using old style ski equipment (and clothes!). There is a You Tube video report (in German) here:

http://youtube.com/v/w7f9ucG5YJ4

Translating, it seems on the first day a 3.5km long race was held, with the quickest competitor finishing in 12mins 46s and the slowest in 1 hour 41 mins 30s! On the second day a 250 metre long race through gates was held - the difference between fastest and slowest competitor in this case was only 1 min 16s.

Nice to see people having fun on the old ski gear. Very Happy However, although some of the gear seems to be free heel so that shouldn't put too much strain on the legs in the event of a fall, I think I saw shots of at least one person on the old style Kandahar cable binding which holds the heel down but of course is not a safety release binding, so in the event of a fall you might if you were unlucky end up with something broken.
