Poster: A snowHead

Last year we hired skis/boots from a shop on the railway platform at Wilderswil. We are going to stay in Wilderswil again soon, but I can not contact the shop. Does anyone know if it has ceased trading? If so where is the best place to rent skis. I am assuming probably Grindelwald?

Shame, they had a good range of clothing - I used to enjoy browsing in there whilest waiting for the train.
Best place to rent might well be Crystal in Lauterbrunnen.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks. We have 3 children going for their first time on snow. (They have had a few dry slope sessions). I think there are more nursery and easy slopes on the Grindelwald/First side, as well as ski school, so that is why I was thinking of hiring in Grindelwald.
Buri Sport looks like a possibility but prices are not clear on their website.
Why do you recommend crystal in Lauterbrunnen in particular? Is that the holiday company crystalski.co.uk? I can not find any details about ski hire from them.

The Buri sport price list Is easier to find on the German version of their website. The table shows the rates for number of days hire so 6 days for a kids ski is 69chf for junior or 42chf for under 6 plus 35chf for boots in both cases. Other options are Intersport in Lauterbrunnen (crystal) or Outdoor Interlaken in Interlaken. Depends a bit if you are taking the car and can shop around or want the convenience.

We are now back after our 1/2 term trip to Wilderswil, and I can confirm that the ski shop on the Wilderswil station platform has closed down. There is still a very useful ski "shed" on the platform where skis can be left overnight (locked from 6.20pm to 6.30 am).
For ski hire our local friends recommended Knutti Sport in the Matten area of Interlaken. It is only 5 minutes from wilderswil and as we travelled by car, no problem to get to. It is tucked away behind a sports/ice skating centre, and gave us excellent service with very reasonable prices below those quoted in Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen.

Resurrecting an old thread to update as this came up on a google search for ski hire in Wilderswil. The ski hire shop re-opened as "Jungfrausports" www.ski-discount.ch in 2014 and we hired skis from there in 2014 and 2015. They are open for the 2016 season.
