Looks like they screwed up the stand height at 36mm but the weight seems good (2620g short / 2650g Long). |
But isn't that exactly the same stand height as the Duke?

Looks like potential for a bit of Insta-tele action there with the binding release lever...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

betterinblack, I thought the Dukes were 34mm? Sure 2mm isn't much different but we want it lower not higher!
offpisteskiing, yeah, not sure it's so different from Naxo or Fritschii (before they put in the lock). They must be aware of it and found it a non-issue?! Here's hoping.

the_doc, could you ask em what the ramp angle is? on most tyrolia alpine bindings they are 6mm higher heels and i really like that the Markers are flat...

skimottaret, adjustable AFD to allow for DIN / AT soles will give a wide range of answers, non?

I'll see what I can dig up, can't promise anything though as I might be on the WD stand for the majority

parlor, sort of yes you can adjust between the two but it would be good to know when it is set up for alpine DIN if the heel is higher than the toe... not a big deal if touring with AT but as an all rounder for me it would work better if alpine was flat...
the_doc, not a biggy just if you think of it and have a chance... i can always ask the head guys...

Had a meeting with Tyrolia at ISPO and had a good look at these. Have to say I was impressed.

Baron 34mm , tyrolia 36mm , solomon 26 mm , how much difference would 10mm to performance all things considered ??

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Neilski, I wasn't overly impressed with the Solomon. That's not to say it is bad but to me it felt like it had too much movement and I heard a number of comments saying that it didn't have 0 degrees where the Tyrolia and marker have 0 degrees plus 7 and 13.
The wide mount on the Tyrolia is good (but the duke has also gone wider) and also the free floating on the Tyrolia is impressive so the ski can flex under the plate. Also the ability to switch into walk without taking the boot out.
I didn't like the plain plastic grey and red of the Tyrolia. That's not to say it is less durable than marker. Side by side with a Duke I think the Duke will look.....more exciting for one.
The din range is good. 5-16 on the Tyrolia rather than 6-16 on the Duke. From my meeting with Tyrolia the price point looks set to be lower than the duke also but will confirm.

IMHO I think Tyrolia is onto a winner.

The duke really has it when driving the ski.... On hardpack or piste...so what?
The performance on powder or corn is the same with both where the hieght really has a negligible effect on performance .I've never really noticed much between the duke or the freeride for instance.
Mode change over is what separates these bindings, if you don't mind removing your skis and then have to grovel around smashing off the ice build up in waist deep powder (if you're lucky) on an exposed pitch then fine. The adrenaline change mode can be done with a pole but locking down is still a schlep due to ice build up on the the lock mechanism.
The tyrolia brake option is what makes them the clear winners .. 150mm sweet.
