Poster: A snowHead

Hello all
I'm looking for a recommendation before I buy a new set of skis.
I'd class myself as an intermediate level skier (approaching advanced intermediate) and I'm pretty swamped by the choice out there.
Have looked closely at 3 skis - the K2 Photon ,K2 Rictor and the Atomic Blackeye Ti but I cant decide between them.....
I'm worried I might outgrow the Photons too quickly but also worried the Rictore or Blackeyes might be 'too much ski'
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as are other recommendations
Cheers
Andrew
PS: I'm 175 and 70 kgs

I got Atomic Blackeye non-ti version though. I love them! Bit softer than the Ti version which you really have to put effort into to get the best out of.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There have been quite a few threads on the blackeye and on the rictor recently. In most of them, I am usually found trying to convince people to buy the former. I have the ti in 167, and am roughly your height and weight. .the rictor gets a lot of good press but I haven't tried it. The blackeye is notable for being quite easy to ski if you want to take it easy, but will work hard if you want it to. I think it far better to get ski you can 'grow' into, than one you will outgrow quickly.

Hi
Cheers for the input
The 'non-ti' were also were recommended to me to check (similar to the K2Impact I believe) but unfortunately where I'll be buying doesn't stock them or the Impact which brought me to the three options above.

Hey Andy
Thanks for that mate. Interesting point about the BlackeyeTi's being easy to ski when taking it easy..... I'm full not on it 'all the time' so this is something that I'd like in a ski - that ability to relax when wanted. It is one of my concerns with the Rictors so I hope I can get some input on that from a few others.
In the meantime I'll search the forum for those other threads you mentioned.
Cheers!

Atomic theory is a pretty solid bet for intermediate-approaching-advanced. Too fluffy for an advanced/charger in my (v limited, fridge based) opinion. Should last you long into advanced level really, and hella fun.

I had a pair of 172cm Dynastar Legends last week and initially thought mmmm not sure about these but have to say I rather enjoyed bombing around on them, great on piste and ok on the little bit off piste I did. Felt quite heavy though. I'm no ski buff so don't know really if they are a good intermediate ski or not. I read on here the other day of folks hiring these as gold/advanced skis?

Yo
Thanks for all the responses guys
After more and more researching and questions I finally made a decision and went with something totally different, Salomon Enduro LX 800's.
By a stroke of luck I got to try them out and hell, I liked em. I was sure they'd be too soft and maybe not enough ski but there just great for my skill level as it turns out! It was an old thread I found in here that turned me on to them in the first place. The review basically said that at 10.5 stone I probably wouldn't need or benefit much from spending more on a stiffer ski and I couldn't agree more! These babies should get me where I want to be over the next 2/3 seasons and then I can look at spending bigger bucks on the advanced skis!
With this in mind the Photons would probably have been enough for me too (I couldn't demo those tho) but the clincher was the price, less than 300euro for Poles and Skis with Z10 bindings. Catch is the guy at the shop used his store discount on em in return for some free guitar lessons, done deal!
Thanks again for all the replies

Simsey, Hey I know it's been half a year but how did you get on with the Salomon LX800's. I'm having the exact same dilemma as you but for the coming season. Looking at the Blackeye standard (non Ti) and the K2 impact. I'm similar size and weight to you, and sounds like a similar level too. Any opinions welcome, as reviews from 'experts' all say the same thing about virtually every ski in this semi-all-mountain ski category!
