Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
can anyone give us any help about how to get the best deal for 2 adult ski passes for Fernie and Kicking Horse. Going for 2-3 days to each in Feb - is there any kind of a combined pass available? We think both resorts are owned by the same company; have tried to email but no response. Does anyone have any info?

RCR customer service not the greatest, best bet to book accomodation through them and get the discount lift pass. You might also try Ski Indpendence etc

lbc, Book lift passes through a TO if you can, you'll save loads. Fernie doesn't do multi-day discounts so 4 day pass is the same price as 4 x 1 day passes.

RCR only recently took over KH, so I would call them up.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

What offers are there in Costco in Calgary? The one on Kamloops does a 2 day pass for Silver Star and the one in Kelowna usually has 2 day passes for Sun Peaks. You have to have a Costco card UK cards work in Canada.

I saved about £250 each by booking through a TO for 2 weeks pass for Fernie. I brought it up with the Fernie rep at the ski show, seems that most people that buy tickets are either locals in which case they buy season tickets or weekenders from Calgary. Crazy that they don't cater for holiday skiers and offer multi-day discounts, like everywhere else in the World.

RCR have an unimaginative attitude to rewarding price-sensitive travellers, and I suspect that if KH is now in their hands, the food standards on the hill will also plummet.

Scottish resorts could argue the same - but still do mult-day discounts.
Fernie is totally out of order with its pricing policy. In fact they are taking visitors for mugs.
IMO, they are also a bit deluded in thinking that the ski area is better than it actually is - ie good but not as good as they think it is. For example, we found piste marking erratic, signposting poor and hazardous areas/drops not marked or protected - downright dangerous in poor visibility. Wonder what they are spending the $$$millions raked in on .....
When we were there for a February visit one year they were also a bit creative and disingenuous with the snow reports:
Actual - No fresh snow, warm temperatures, slush/rain at the bottom, snow fair overall.
Fernie Version - An amazing 10 metres of snow (or whatever!) so far this winter, excellent groomed conditions, bowls incredible etc etc....
For what it was worth we filled in a customer comments card to reflect the above.

Fernie is an absolutely fantastic ski area when conditions are good but a lot of a nightmare when conditions are too good (necessitating widespread closure of terrain) or it's rained. It's definitely not an extensive groomer cruiser place. RCR don't seem to recognise this with a bit of flexibility on pricing - it's definitely worth handing over the day ticket price on a 45cm powder day mid week, not at all on a holiday Saturday day when it's rained from the top of Whitepass.
