Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello,
I hve not been skiing for years, but want to get back into it and fancy a Ski holiday towards the end of March when I have two weeks off work. What is the best way to go about this on your own? Any suggestions on good places to book deals which include most things to avoid confusion!!
Thanks in advance.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Best idea is to join a chalet as a single. Can be a gamble as you don't know the rest of the people in the chalet.
Contact some of the smaller Chalet operators and ask for a room on your own without having to pay a single supplement. Many will turn you down flat but be persistent and you will find something, specially if you leave it late.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Or share your ideas here as you form them eg. where you might like to go, which week etc. and start to build up a little group of likemindeds.

If you are looking for instruction as well and are on a budget, you could try a UCPA holiday. Accommodation is 'basic' and shared between 2-6 people in dorm type accommodation - same sex for single travellers. Food is pretty good and includes lunch (or a packed lunch for that time of year), 7-day ski pass, equipment hire and either full or half time instruction / guiding is included. Centres are very sociable and if you book through www.action-outdoors.co.uk, you can ask them how many other UK clients are heading to the centre the same week and maybe get to know some via their facebook site before you go - availability is fairly limited now but there are still some good deals to be had (plus they sometimes get cancellations). If you want a £10 discount use SP2010 when you book online.

UCPAs are excellent, and offer the best value possible for the independent skier/boarder. They are a non-profit making organisation - that is one reason why they are so cheap.
I have been to plenty of their centres, they are all good. Which resort you choose really depends on what sort of skiing/boarding you fancy.

Skigirl21, not sure I'll be able to move my dates now, I'll have a look when I'm back at work on Sunday. What are the details of the trip you're planning for 10th March?
