Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Powder Ribbon / Leashes, Do You?

Do you attach ribbon to bindings and let them drag behind as you ski OR attach to binding and tuck them up ski pants

When I used to use powder ribbons, I stuffed them up the gaiters of my ski pants. It's a bit of a faff every time you take the skis on and off. When I got decent at skiing in powder, I didn't bother anymore. Definately worth using in the early stages, as I have spent an hour on 2 occasions finding my skis.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Tuck into pants - if you let them drag they could easily get caught and rip off. If only my mate John had had them before Xmas we wouldn't have spent 20 minutes in an increasingly desperate search!

The problem with powder ribbons that you stuff up your pant leg (gaitors) is that they have a tendency to be pulled out while just skiing. If you want some powder ribbons that won't do that, and that are always there when you need them, check out http:\\powtales.com. It's a new concept and a new product for locating a lost ski.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Attach to bindings and stuff in leg gaitors. I wouldn't leave them trailing behind as they will almost certainly get shredded by your edges.

If you need to use ribbons then just attach a mini krab to each one so they can be left tucked in your pants and unclipped from the bindings when you take your skis off.

The leashes I have came with what can best be described as "boot-top garters" that you wear outside your ski pants and just above boot level.

You then just stuff the leashes up the garter.

The upside is that it's a lot less faff.

The downside is that you look like a Morris dancer... Skullie

does anyone here remember "powder pockets"?
Or did I dream them in a powder/vodka stoked frenzy?

I've not tried it but a Loc8tor could be the answer. Range will be limited through snow but will probably be adequate. Absolutely zero faff - except for changing the batteries!
