Looking at stuff for me and the kids for skiing. Just wondering what differences snowboard gear has compared to skiing stuff and whether it's still suitable? I've seen some stuff marked up as "snowboard" and it doesn't seem remarkably different. Do any skiers wear stuff that was described as "snowboard"? Basically want to be open to all styles and prices if I can.

Snowboard pants have lead weights in the buttock area that gets quite heavy after a while and forces you to sit down half way down a piste totally unexpectedly!

shoogly, that explains it !! I thought the sudden sitting down was due to the delayed effects of the spliffs they'd smoked on the lift up.
Layne, I reckon most stuff will fit so long as it's got some give at the bottom of the leg. I use stretchy soft shell climbing/hiking pants and though they're narrower than ski salopettes at the shin/ankle, they do get over a ski boot just fine.

Layne, in me experience you can ski in board gear, but boarding in ski stuff leaves you with a wet bum.

FWIW, I've skied in boarding pants for the last 5 year's and they've been great.

Layne one thing to consider is that ski specific pants are often reinforced on the inside of the ankle to stop them getting sliced by your ski edges

Layne, I'm a skier but I wear snowboarding pants. I seem to have avoided middle aged spread but have mountian biking thighs and often the ski pants are cut a bit slim in the smaller sizes. If you are doing any park stuff then stretchy or baggy pants helps with the movement from what I've learnt.

Husband went over to the dark side of snowboarding last year, but as a skiier, always wore snowboarding gear as "it looked nicer".

Tthen i would say what ever takes their fancy, nice bright colours and pockets for their stuff.

Layne, As others have said, I wear snowboarding trousers and I ski. They're a better fit (for me), you don't get a wet bum when you sit down and do seem to have extra pockets. Couple of things to watch out for is the cuts on the un-reinforced inner ankle area (mine have multiple cuts, but since it's usually where my ski boots are - not a problem with leakage etc) and the little metal hooks on the bottom of the inner layer. I guess these are for attaching to the laces on snowboard boots, but they're not an issue as such... just be careful not to stand on them if you're walking around in your socks. Instant hurty foot.

Revisiting the subject.
I am quite tall and slim. Looking at the Surfanic sizings on the internet seemed promising:

They have a short, standard and long length. OK so the long is only 1" longer than the standard but... But then when I actually check the listings, it turns out they don't sell any long. http://www.surfanic.co.uk/CAT_ListCategories.aspx?cid=123&pid=91&Category=Pants
I went in their shop today and they confirmed... no we don't sell any long. I then went to Ellis and Brigham, where it seemed to be the same story across the brands.
Any tall blokes or ladies out there? Anybody know of any long ski pant manufacturers?
My normal inside leg measure is 34" and my waiste 34".

Schoffel make long leg versions of both mens and womens ski pants, available from Snow and Rock and others. Although after 5 years of wearing long length pants, I'm not sure that I really need them? If they are a bit short, does it matter when you're wearing them over ski boots?
