Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does Travel Direct insurance cover rescue from the piste?

Doing the normal holiday insurance booking thing! I went with direct travel on my two holidays last year and thankfully didn't have to claim. Just went to book with them again and last year had it drummed into me to check a few essentials like flying me back to the UK and rescuing me off the piste! It must have clearly offered it last year or I wouldn't have gone with them but this year I don't seem to be able to see anything about rescue / recovery off the slopes? Am I being blind!

Why is nothing easy!!!! gahhh

Millie10, if it's a travel insurance which specifically covers skiing, it would be most peculiar if it didn't cover piste rescue. However, the way the companies lay out their "policy wording" is often hard to decipher. You'd think that the all-important search and rescue costs would be specifically mentioned in the ski section, but that tends just to deal with trivial stuff like getting your skis nicked or compensation if all the lifts are closed.

Why not ring them and ask?

Ok, after a lot of searching looks like they are a no go!

Under the what don't we cover section:

6. Any search and rescue costs (costs charged to you by a government, regulated authority or private
organisation connected with finding and rescuing you. This does not include medical evacuation costs by the
most appropriate transport).

lots of people on here use Direct Travel Insurance.

I think a full Search and Rescue is a bit different to getting you off the piste

I was with them last year. They now changed and you have to take out specific snow sports cover. I have used snowcard this year. There was a big insurance thread going a while back that discussed how many companies had massively hiked their premiums and/or backed away from snow sports or off piste cover.
