Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hello,

Did this on the first run on my first day in Whistler! had an op in Vancouver to put 2 pins in it and straighten it out last friday - has anyone else had a similar injury (fractured thumb is the none technical term) and how long was the recovery, i'm assuming my trip to Les Coches on the 4th of Feb is a no go but i'd like to spend some time on my new skis this season so hoping i'll be good for march!

Cheers

James

j4meseaton, while i understand the risk of further inury and making things worse in the event of another fall, and this should be factored in to you thinking, why would this stop you actually skiing?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

j4meseaton, although I didn't have pins, I did have a fracture and torn ligaments when i went on my very first skiing holiday. After day 1 , I persuaded them to remove the pot, and got a splint similar to your link, but it was thermoplastic. You will need a larger glove, and I managed to find some with a zip on the cuff area. I skied 3 weeks after, and the only thing that hurt was hitting it with the button lift.

My brother did his thumb on the dry slope about a week before a trip but managed to ski with a plastic splint and oversized glove.

I don't think I would let it cause a whole missed season

you don't ski with your thumb, as others have said a good splint , an oversized glove and take a little care...all will be good.... oh yeah and don't forget to tell the insurance man and pay the little additional premium just in case!
