Poster: A snowHead

maybe a stupid question: I am happy that my boots (surefoot with custom foam liners and footbeds) are an excellent fit - not a high performance race fit but fine for all day on a variety of terrain , and I am also very happy with the flex pattern. Standing on 2 legs, I can flex and move normally.
But, I find that if I stand on 1 leg (with boot on) and try and flex/ squat, my balance is all over the place and I have to twist my hips and knees into an unnatural position and i have real trouble telling when my boot is centred or tipped on edge. I've got no problem doing this barefoot so don't think its me, and I suspect this may affect my skiing...just wondered if anyone else has similar issues and what the bootfitters recommend?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

some people can't stand on one leg without boots on, the added boot just makes it harder to balance because of the higher centre of balance and more weight on the foot off the ground.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

spiceman, if your lateral alignment is out, you won't be able to balance on one foot without some effort. I got my boots shimmed by Andy McCann, who, I think, still operates out of Colin (CEM's) place (Solutions 4 Feet). I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm if that's still the case. Worked a treat

spiceman, another happy "shimmed" skier by Andi, Sharkymark, yes he does at certain times a month, combined with the best footbeds I've ever owned by CEM I am now able to lift either ski and continue in a straight line with little thought or adjustment!

not me, I do a lot of 1 leg squats and other single leg exercises in training and have no problems there. But, put the boots on and ...big problem.Time I suspect to see a bootfitter/alignment expert

no - with a ski on it is better, but I can't believe that it is right to feel unbalanced on just the boots
