This has likely been discussed previously, but I thought I would ask if there was anywhere new to be recommended (or avoided)
Either mountain restaurants, or resort level, would rather not spend an absolute fortune, but we normally enjoy a couple of "nicer" meals each week. Don't mind spending if the food is good, but hate getting ripped off, as we have previously!
From what I have gathered/been to before
Above La Tania - Le Bouc Blanc - we have had a few good meals here. Seems to be frequented by the ESF and gets very busy
La Tania - La Taiga we have never lunched here, but dined a couple of years back on chalet hosts' night off. Lovely meal
1850 - Bel Air - we never managed to get in here, but it ws recommended to us
Meribel - le Rond Pont - snacky, but we had a v good pizza here once, so it has stuck in my mind!
There was a place in 1550, tucked away in a corner, or was it 1650? A couple of doors along from a Casino shop? Actually, a quick google suggests it might have been
Le Petit Savoyard Lovely lunch
Avoid
Somewhere up near the Altiport in Courchevel?- it was v expensive and food was cold
Any more suggestions/places to avoid?
Thanks, in advance

La ferme Reberty at Reberty 2000 over at Les Menuires. Had a good lunch there today, good choice and good food. Range of prices, but something for everyone I would have thought. Friendly staff, good atmosphere. Les deux lacs at Val Tho always good. Le Blanchot near the Altiport in Meribel but only if someone else is paying Good snacks at the Boulangerie in Meribel village and very good vin chaud and crepes there. Good burgers at Les Castors at La Chaudanne in Meribel.

Thanks all- That would be great Shoogly, I did a search, but I couldn't find a thread dedicated to it (would have passed me by last year as we were in VDI). I seem to remember something though (memory of the average goldfish!!)

L' Ours Blanc hotel. Take the Doran chair from the base of La Masse and look right as you start to pass over the beginner slip in Les Menuires. This will let you spot the ski path in. No better lunch spot on a nice day.

Chalet de la Marine (restaurant rather than snack bar) - VT - pretty expensive but best overall value on the slopes IMO - especially if it sunny and you're outside
Steer clear of Plains de Mains - Meribel
Rond Point is OK - Meribel
End of Col de la Loze if it's sunny - Courchevel
Caribou in VT on Moraine is much better over the last year or 2 so wortha trip
L'Etoile des Neiges in St Martin is just fantastic and best quality without being silly in Courchevel (but still a bit expensive and just off the end of the slope)
Nice little restaurant at the end of Jerusalem at top of bubble out of St Martin - not flashy or expensive
One at the end of Alpage in Les Menuires is pretty good - especially Plat du Jour
Restaurant in Orelle valley is not good althought the skiing in that valley makes up for it !!!
Often I find the Plat du Jour is the best - it's the one the chef has concentrated on

Is that the place opposite the church? If so had a fantastic day out from 1650, over there for lunch and back in the afternoon a couple of years ago.

Ladies and Gentlemen do not fear, Mr M is here. I would like to refute claims of "gourmet" made earlier in the thread - I am a connoisseur of one thing and one thing alone. Pizza. Especially the extremely rare decent quality at a decent price mountain pizza.
So, here's my reccomendations, for what they're worth.
1. The Knife and Fork in Val Thorens. Chalet du Thorens I think is the proper name. Now I know what you are all saying - but Monium they serve the most godawful sandwiches on earth! And yes, they really really do. I even tested them to see if a sandwich could be as awful as everyone said. It was. But go to the lowest level on the left hand side as you look at the front, and you will find a cheap bar bit that does decent pizza. Fresh dough, cooked to order in a few minutes, and of all the options in there, the pizzas are the best value option (and I like them) Avoid at all costs the sandwich bar up top, the waffles aren't great, and the noodle bar downstairs doesn't get good press.
2. L'Ours Blanc at Reberty/Menuires. Not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name in Courchevel. Simply the best. I've been known to organise an entire day of skiing around a visit to this place.
3. Mrs M is right about the hatch below the Bel Air (top of the Bel Air lift) - the restaurant upstairs is fairly expensive, but I've not tried their food so it might be ok. They do a decent hot chocolate inside for a morning stop.
4. Some of our group had a good meal in the Chalet at the top of the Moutiere, right there on the left as you come off the lift. They claimed it was better than the pizza at the knife and fork. Somehow I find that hard to believe. I was quite hurt.
5. Courchevel 1650 - if you are strapped for cash, it is worth going down the escalator back into town to get some lunch. The bakers just down the road (turn left as you come off the escalator) does sandwiches and pastries for sensible price and good quality.
6. Also in 1650 - Rockys Bar (run by Ski Olympic) is not exactly haute cuisine, but they chuck out big bowls of pasta which are perfectly good for 6/7 euros, and drinks sensibly priced too. Opposite the escalator down to town.
There's loads more than this, it will come to me. Rule number one on the Monium Ski Lunch Lessons for Beginners is to check the menu, look at what some people are eating, try and identify what they do well, and don't be afraid to leave if you don't like what you see.

bel air is in 1650, but i am sure that was a typo, not cheap but we try to get there at least once each trip.
the Courche niege on the side of the bellecote is good food and good value. also their is a small restaurant (pizza, pasta type stuff mostly) in the corner of the forum, its right next to a bar and doesnt look much, but again good food, reasonably priced.

I don't really like recommending places but I like the Telebar in Meribel just below Rhodos mid station and the Bo a Mil in Meribel Village, good local traditional dishes as well as other stuff.

What's that super-swanky on-slope restaurant in Courcheval with a sandwich bar and some deck chairs attached. Perfectly normally priced sandwiches, but you can use the swanky loos!
Several sandwich shops in the middle of Meribel.

On the Masse side of Les Menuires, low down on the Vallons piste is a restaurant called 3V (I think). Very good value, and good simple food. Combined with some of the excellent and quiet pistes in this area it's always one of my favourite parts to visit.

And get down to St Martin de Belleville too. Jerusalem is a cracking run in good conditions, and there's a great speciality burger place on the piste in St Martin by the bottom lift station called something like Dahlia

double love jerusalem, though i did crack a couple of ribs there a few years back, spring 2004, was an epic trip in very good conditions, knee deep on on day even down under la croisette, remember the whole mountain just laughing and whooping.
ahhh the memories.

I remember going full tilt down Jerusalem trying to catch some mates up, badly timed a bump, landed up on my backside and overtook them sitting down . . . . still have the GPS track on my Garmin.
Anyway back to the thread, Mrs Alti-Dude was in Folie Douce today for a snack and reports it was even worse than last year. Described as 'expensive frozen food'.

VT - Face West cafe (next too to the ESF) at the top of the double magic carpets in the village. Great pizzas and big enough to share
Meribel - At the top of the Pas du Lac1 gondola, great terrace for the sunshine.
Meribel - At the bottom of the mont vallon bubble, seemed a bit 'foodie' rather than 'mountain grub' but pretty good with it
Meribel - Lodge du Village, in Meribel villages - green awning over the road from the bottom of the run down to village

For a decent lunch served on proper tables and table cloths try hotel Le peupliers in Le Praz.
Plat de jour 30 for 3 courses and the best vin chaud in 3 vallees 1 only mind as 2 are incapacitating!!!!

+1 for Bouc Blanc at top la Tania bubble - decent food, good service and standard prices
Peupliers ok apart from the pretentious waiter that served us last week. Cant fault their vin chauds though!
L'Eterou (down the lane skier's right and across the street ) and L'Ours Blanc in 1650 (piste-front) are both decent with moderate prices. Prefer L'Eterou though.
Ski Lodge in LaTania if you want good basic fare.

there's a lovely creperie in Corcheval 1550, if you get there by 12ish beat the rush and get back up the mountain with no queues ... it has nice cidre brut too - which seems rare in these parts.
La Loy is a lovely piste side restaurant just above St Martin is excellent Savoie cooking with some decent veggie options and very reasonably priced. As above get there early and avoid the dreaded queues of St Martin 2 chairlift. PS don't miss ski-ing down Jerusalem!!

One to try for an inexpensive informal snack that's not a burger and fries type place is Chalet De La Moutiere. Top of Moutiere lift in VT. Small and friendly. One of those places you don't mind parting with your cash in (ie not like Folie Douce !).
