Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Short break in January for intermediates - advice please!

A friend of a friend has asked my advice as follows:

"My husband & I are looking at going away for an inexpensive weekend skiing in Jan. We only want to be away for 4 days so can't go too far afield or too far from airport. We have skied a few times in Verbier and Val D'Isere. Both are wonderful (but very £££) but keen to try somewhere new. We would want to stay somewhere central to ski lifts / small town and ideally have quite a few intermediate runs rather than just a series of black runs (verbier is quite tough skiing in parts). It is just the two of us so a little B & B / alpine style hotel would be wonderful..."

Would one of the Austrian places near either Innsbruck or Salzburg be what she is after? Which places are best for intermediates as well as near the airport? And does anyone know of an especially recommendable good b&b or small hotel in such a place...?

Someone earlier was talking about Kuthai, might be worth a look as its only 1hr ish from Innsbruck, medium sized intermediate area with pretty much all ski in- ski out accomodation, only skied it for individual days so can't give accomodation recommendations

Maria Alm near Salzburg is beautiful, hotel Der Handlerhof is on a red run, but out of the main village so you would need a taxi, theres lots of nice accommodation in the village and the ski area is part of the Ski Amade, a huge linked area. We have done weekends and a whole week there, highly recommended.

Another favourite (excellent if on a budget) is Lofer, agai n near Salzburg taxi is 99 euro return, can recommend Haus Patricia, it's an immaculate b&b, we have stayed there twice, 5 min walk to the gondola, top class ski hire shop, lift passes are very cheap and although limited the skiing is great, no queues, and plenty to keep you occupied for a short break.
