Hi all, am in the process of planning second trip of the season 
We usually go to resorts in the Tarentaise Valley, but Mrs Skier has persuaded me that we should go somewhere different. She has narrowed it down to Obergurgl or Saas Fee (particularly because we have young children, and will probably go with Esprit this time). Question - which has the better skiing? I will go down most pistes of all colours and have done a bit of off-piste (and would like to do more!)
Any thoughts appreciated!

Was in Saas Fee last Feb.
Beautiful town and some good long red runs.I would not recomend it for nervous skiers as most of the runs are red.
Only down side was everything was very expensive.
You would ski the whole area in 2 days.

There isn't a lot in it to be honest. Saas Fee has 100km of piste versus Obergurgl's 110. Although Obergurgl does have a free bus to Solden down the road, so that's two high snow sure resorts to go at. There is other skiing in the Saas valley, but it's lower and less snow sure, so if the trip was early or late season then you couldn't rely on that.
For non skiing/boarding activities Saas Fee wins hand down though. There is lots for the kids to do and plenty to do if you decide to have a day off.
They are quite similar areas. If you prefer slightly easier runs (or you don't like T-Bars) then Obergurgl is better. If you prefer slightly more challenging runs then Saas Fee is better.

Well, I would go for the slightly more challenging skiing, and don't mind T-Bars, and Mrs M will appreciate the beautiful town and non-skiing options, so it sounds like Saas Fee is the front runner. Thanks Chick and Lager for your feedback.

N10skier, as Chick, says, the exchange rate may affect your decision?
I personally don't like Saas Fee - it seems to be one of those resorts where the skiing on the ground doesn't seem to live up to how it looks on the piste map... Having said that the mountain scenary is superb.
Tough choice between the two

N10skier, Dont forget you can also avail of a day trip to Zermatt as part of a 6 day pass.
Big fan of Saas Fee it is a tad pricey but with the current exchange allot of the shops and hotels, Resteraunts have adjusted their prices accordingly.
Saas Fee all the way for me,.

Been to Obergurgl/ Hochgurgl for a weekend last year and it was ok. Nice town and nice people. Skiing is ok at best with only 2 really challenging runs but some nice long reds. Make sure to seek out the hidden blacks in Hochgurgl, they're worth the effort!

Was in Obergurgl last January. Will be in Saas Fee next January or next month. Initial thought is there are too many drag lifts in Switzerland and Saas Fee is fairly typical of it. Saas Fee has 100km piste and Obergurgl has 110km.
I would go for Solden instead of Obergurgl if this is my first visit. Same in Switzerland Zermatt would be preferred to Saas Fee. I went to Obergurgl because I was staying in Solden last year. This year I shall ski Zermatt before going to Saas Fee.
Betweem Saas Fee and Obergurgl only I would probably stick with the Austrian as it is better value for money and usually lifts are more modern.

Fattes13, day trip to Zermatt, that is a cracking thought. How long does the journey take?

We took the public transport option and total time including waiting etc was about 90 min, we got a good early start and caught the first lifts in Zermatt. If you have a car its less than an hour trip. The Public transport transfer is half price when you buy your lift pass and zermatt is inculded for a day.
As for the Drag lifts any glacier resort has tons of them due to the nature of constantly shifting Ice fields

Obergurgl is better just because you can easily ski in Solden too.
