Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Going skiing in March and I have a habit of breaking away from the pack snowHead

Cheaper the better they don't have to be top top. Just wondering if anyone has any that they use for keeping in touch on a mountain?

Cheers.

Yes, the American FRS/GMRS walkie talkies operate on frequencies that can interfere with emergency services in Europe, see here and here.

Using inappropriate frequency bands aside, power is limited on unlicensed radio bands for legal reasons, not because manufacturers can't be bothered to make better kit for you.

You're very worried about what people might think of you and what you are doing and how you look. You should relax.

Walkie talkies are cheap, robust and reasonably reliable. That said, resorts tend to have perfectly good mobile coverage, and you'll be able to use your phone to talk to someone in the next valley... something you can't do with a walkie talkie. If you have a local sim or reasonably priced roaming rates, a phone will be fine.

allanm, they work fine, but the number of other people using the same frequencies was a pain. Just constant noise.

Should really put them on ebay!

Oh, at least a month without a walkie-talkie thread!

dntel123, Radios do have their limitations but in my exp. have proven invaluable in the past, especially co-ordinating groups. I would agree with some of the post as there is nothing worse than having to listen to someones else's constant chatter esp if its in Russian. Make sure if you buy a new set it comes with CTSS-sort of a sub channel within a channel.
