Only ski'd to La Thuile from La Rosiere, so cannot comment on accomodation or night life, But we all ( group of 8 ) prefered the runs in La Thuile to La Ros. We found food and drink a lot cheaper over La Thuile than La Ros.
We did fancy going to La Thuile this year but found a self catered appt for 8-10 hard to find, so back to La Rosiere.

Yes I went there in 2010. It's a small village and very quiet. Some nice hotels and shops but not much going on. The village itself is a bit of a walk from the slopes but there is a hotel and apartment complex at the lift base station (Planibel) which is functional but rather soulless. The ski area is huge and shared with La Rosière in France. It is a very beginner/intermediate resort. The blues are mostly flat, the reds are easy and flattish in places and the blacks are definitely maroon.
Good bits: it's empty, the village is pretty, good value for money, access to other resorts on same lift pass by bus (Courmayeur, Pila), some nice mountain huts.
Bad bits: there's not much to do off the slopes, long walk or bus ride to the slopes unless you stay in the soulless Planibel, not much to challenge the advanced skier.

I wouldn't say it was huge even combined with Le Ros-about 150km in total from memory? I think the better terrain is on the Italian side but the link getting over is a bit tedious to say the least but def worth it. All depends on what you're after really and what level you're at, food and drink are certainly cheaper on the Italian side and you also have the option of an away day at several resorts.
So to answer your question good resort for all really I'd go back, there was some interesting off piste too. Any specific question fire away.

Just looking to find out what it is like as a resort in general. Skied at Courmayeur before, so have been considering La Thuile for a change.

150km is a nice size for a week, but personally I found La Thuile/La Ros didn't feel that big. Lots of the runs that make up that mileage are of the 'parallel to each other and completely identical' variety.
Two of the black runs are serious, and great fun. The very top of the domain is pleasingly barren and wild. The 'Fontaine Froid' run down to La Rosiere is wonderful. The drag lift back to Italy isn't.
Day trips to Courmayeur and Pila are both easy, and worthwhile. Pila is better than Courmayeur in my view.
Timbobaggins or anyone else, I can recommend a good and well situated s/c apartment in La Thuile for 8/10 pax. PM for deetz if you want.

I like it. Nice crusing reds and steep, boiler plate blacks. The runs are more made to fit the mountain rather than re-design the mountain to fit a run means there's some interesting corners in places. Good food and really good coffee at decent prices is a bonus.

Agree with paulio, Pila is worth a visit actually I've spent more time skiing there than any other resort when I think about it 2-4 weeks a season for the last 8 teaching but doesn't look like I'll be going this season at all.
