Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hotel with ensuite rooms including singles
At least 100km and varied terrain type ski area
Pleasant village to wander round with a few bars, not necessarily raucous après
Good mountain huts
Well-connected ski area
Distance from accommodation to lifts not an issue if there are good equipment storage facilities at the base stations
Flights from several regional airports

Snow of course would be a distinct bonus Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Laughing Some, of them, including hotels with "facilities" and saunas etc are things I'd avoid even if I were loaded.

We're all different, fortunately! My list would be very like Zero-G's, but I might add my helmet wired for sound. (Just to stir up some argument.....)

When I was a student, I didn't care!! Now own bathroom facilities are a must. Apart from that nice food, comfortable surroundings to chill after a long day. I do like a bath too, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker!

And a hot tub is a nice extra, but not essential

Skiing wise, somewhere fairly snow sure with easy slope access, pref ski In/out. Lots of different terrain

That makes me sound like a bit of a diva!! I'm not, but I've just found that since I've been on "nicer" hols with OH, my expectations are higher that they were during my student days

Good off piste with some steep slopes (and obviously snow) is all that is really necessary. Plus a guide is a must, so he gets booked first - normally for 6 days out of my normal 8.
Good food if possible - it does make a difference - and beds not too hard (but I now carry a roll of Memory Foam in case of the latter).
I enjoy a nice, luxurious, but low key, family-run hotel but I am perfectly happy without.

None of the following are important

Easy access to slopes (no faffing with buses)
Nice hotel with decent food and some facilities for if the weather is really bad
Sauna
As few drag lifts as possible
Hotel in quiet location

and

Decent toilets with a good quality paper.
Good wine selection.
good local beer.
sufficient spread of mountain resturants.
short transfer.

Everything above is nice to have of course, it's just not essential.

What is important-

-Nature and extent of skiing.
-Height and orientation of the skiing.

 You know it makes sense.

Snow, a bed, and a bog.

Anything else is a bonus.

Don't get all this ski in/out stuff as being an essential, critical requirement, and if you can't hockey stop in to the boot room then the holiday is totally ruined !? Puzzled Saying that, all of those people that can't cope with a 3min clomp and get a gondola up to the slopes are welcome to pay for a pricier hotel in France, and leave more snow for me in Austria Smile.

I'm not young. And I do have a long list of "nice to have".

But my "must have" is still a short list!

- As much snow as possible & as little ice as possible

- Variety of terrain, some challenging and some easy

- Private bath in the hotel

That's it!

I would LIKE to have good on mountain food but it really isn't a "must".

It's real nice to ski in and ski out. But I'm not deterred by buses.

Sauna (actually prefer Whirlpool) is high on the preference list. But that's only because I'm spoiled by N. American lodging, where even the lowest priced motel would have one.

When with a group in self catered chalet, at least 4 toilets are a must, nothing worse than queuing in the morning, or ladies moaning about seat up seat down ect ect.

Good snow - which for me now means anything as long as it's white and good friends with whom to share it.

Nice accommodation, convenience, etc etc etc are all good but are icing on cake rather than the cake itself.

Blue sky, no wind, about -2C and that squeaky powdery surface on a decent base. No queues, no-one behind me on piste, especially on a board. Yeah, I'm getting old.

Having said that, if it's still snowing on the 2nd day running I'd venture out for a bit but only if visibility was OK. The transformation when the sun comes out is pure magic I always think. We get enough overcast weather at home, I don't really want to pay to put up with it.

If I was able to get more time off I would be happy to swap essentials for more time on the slopes

For me,

Absolute must-

Snow, good free chalet wine (if thats possible), a variety of tasty food, bed.

Bonus-

no queues, no foreigners running there edges across my skis, blue skies, sun, night life, fresh snowfall every night and a mountain facing balcony to wake up to.

cstreat, surely a 7ft wide bed is not a "must have" on a ski trip though, given that a 6ft superking bed is more than ample for a couple...

unless... oh...

your apres ski activites sound, er, "fun"... Shocked

Whitegold, a man after my own heart.

In truth, I'll take a roof, a bed which I don't have to share with anyone with whom I am not intimate, and as much of the white stuff as I can get to.

What I don't want, and please bear this in mind if you ever get a job as God's weather planner, is flat light where there are no trees. Fanx.

For me:

Essentials:
1. Snow (Duh!)
2. Half board (orv chalet board) accommodation with single room at reasonable price and reasonable food.

Nice to have, but not a deal-breaker if not.
3. No more than 15 minutes or so from decent slopes - I don't mind if you need a bus, but I don't want to spend a lot of time on said bus, because I want to spend a lot of time skiing.
4. Sauna
5 Flights early enough in the morning that I can get an hour or two skiing on arrival.

After the obvious answer (snow) everything else can be sorted but....

Lots of hot water avalable in either a private bath or shower (you can keep those scummy shared baths, whatever you want to call them) whether your first or last back from the slopes.
Good food and plenty of it, preferably with decent red wine.
Good company, both on and off the slopes.
