The SnowVember Ski Test at Chill Factore (SNovTest_CFe)
- Would run from 17:00 to 21:00 on Sat 22 Nov 2014
- And be in Chill Factore, Manchester
OK, due to popular demand I have stuck to my mission to make [meaningful] contact with Chill Factore.
As it was, once I'd actually got to the relevant person, everything seemed to go very smoothly.
Ironically though, the 'best day' was the date I'd wanted originally (Sat 18th Oct) but with, by then, just 5 days' notice it simply wasn't achievable.
So, what with ski shows and other commitments, the next feasible date is Saturday 22nd November.
As at Hemel, the price will be: £35 for the 4 hr session (£25 super/mega-snowHeads) - for a late November date, I think this is rather a bargain!
Brands, so far, who have confirmed they will be there are:
Kneissl, Dynastar, K2, Volkl, Line, Whitedot, Armada and Movement
Obviously, the sooner we get a decent number of testers on the list, the easier it will be to persuade others to commit too (that's how it works ).
It has seemed that we have demand enough to make this worthwhile and with 100+ snowHeads rolling up at Hemel last week, I'd like to think it as a given but I do need to make sure we've got the solid interest since it's not fair to ask the guys to come out with all their skis for fewer than 20 testers.
So, please declare your intent with the buttons above and once we've got critical mass, I'll activate the sign-up button.
If you're saying to yourself, "I'm not a good enough skier to properly tell the difference between these skis", DON'T!
Different skis do feel enormously different to each other. Think about it, you turn up for your holiday and compared to last time you have different snow on different pistes, different weather, maybe a different fitness level and on top of that, different skis! How can you possibly figure out what's you, what's the skis, what's the snow? And by the time you're back to where you were last time, it's time to go home!
One of the best things you can do for your skiing is to A/B different skis in a controlled environment. You learn very quickly that some suit you better than others. Most importantly though you get an amazing insight into the boundary between what is the ski and what is you.
Actually, even more importantly: we get to slide around on snow on new skis with loads of snowHeads!! What could be better?
As usual:
Everybody coming needs to sign up from their own snowHeads account (yes even kids) so if you've got a +1, please sort them out with their own snowHeads ID.
(I've made this big as no-one seems to read it and I kept getting asked for +1's)

OK - I see another on the "definitely" list.
As I said above: it's not fair to expect the guys to bring all their skis all this way if there wont be a decent number of people to use them.
I tend to figure a safe 20 is a good mark so by my reckoning we're about half way there now.

For those wanting to come from a distance away there are a couple of hotels ( Premiere Inn and Travel lodge ) |
They are coming in at £106/£100 respectively so I think I must drive as bus & train make for a long day.
I guess It will be a new experience to ski without a hangover and sober. Scary stuff.

Lechbob,
There is an IBIS hotel at Salford Quays ( a bit further away but only about 10-15 by car ). Metro station very close by to Eccles and short bus drive to Trafford centre.
I am happy to help pick people up from train/metro etc

speed098, Most kind of you to offer help.
Getting there, I have all day. Getting back I would need to get back to Victoria station to catch a train, the bus takes an age, pretty quick by train from Eccles but the timings don't work for me on Sat pm.
Maybe when everyone signs up we can post who will share transport, + any plans for a meal/drink before/after ?

It makes no difference to me if I go back on the motorway or via city centre and past Victoria. If a few needed a lift back and had skies I could just throw the roofbox on the car.

Thanks for sorting this out - I was disappointed with the lack of a ski test at Castleford after I couldn't make it last year, but it's only an extra 20 min to get to Manchester so it would be rude not to I've not been to CFe before, so am interested in how it compares to Cas as well.
I'll sort out a funds transfer tomorrow, and ask around my ski mates to see if anyone else is interested (N is already signed up, so we're 2 anyway).

As if all this wasn't brilliant enough already...
Looking at the OktoberTest Ski Test results, Whitedot were so chuffed that 53 pairs12 more than any other brand and twice as many as most...
Dot.'s arms must have been aching by the end!! of their skis went out on test at OktoberTest in Hemel that they've offered a free pair of Tirolia Peak 15 bindings to anyone who buys a Whitedot that they tested at one of our tests.
Now that's a sweet deal
For details of how to get this deal......you'd better come test some Whitedots, hadn't you
