Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are right on the route and looking forward to all the fun.
We're interested how they will manage to scramble getting into the Bobsleigh run - surely its really only wide enough for one rider . . ?

They will probably sell for a little less. There is no comparison in terms of age (2003 vs. 1978) or style.”

Seems very reasonable: only 3% increase on the Paradiski Senior Season Pass (if my maths is correct).
And still 75 years for the not-quite-free pass Very Happy

@rob@rar, "It would be a 10-seater gondola with a flow of 2,600 people per hour and per direction. The project provides for a departure station integrated into the SNCF and bus station of Aime. An intermediate station would be positioned at the Olympic bobsleigh track, at an altitude of 1550 m. Finally, the arrival would be at the Plagne Centre bus station, at an altitude of 1950 m. With the elevator in the valley, the travel time between the valley and the summit is estimated at 17 minutes compared to 34 minutes on average with a car or bus."

Can anyone confirm whether the old Roche De Mio bubble lift is being retained between Bellecote and Belle Plagne? I had been led to believe this was the plan but now hearing it’s just going to be a bus?
ski holidays

I thought I had read somewhere that it was going to be retained, but I can't find where. Purely selfishly it wouldn't bother us as we are right down the bottom of the village, so it would save a trek up to the gondola.

It would make sense in reality as it would be vastly cheaper to have a bus shuttling back and forward, rather than maintaining all that infrastructure ( and much less staff).

I was wondering whether they'd extend the Plagne centre to Bellecote bus to Belle Plagne as one solution.

I've read in a number of places that the lower section will be retained. That was certainly the original plan.

It is being replaced by a bus this summer, presumably while the upper section is dismantled, but not heard that that will continue to the winter season.

@chopkins13, on reflection my earlier reply didn't make much sense! The lower section is being replaced by a bus this summer in order to still access the upper section, not so the latter can be dismantled. Guess any work needed must be on the lower section, perhaps to the base station.

eblunt, quite a day.
Was at Loup Blanc for the caravan, which coincided with a mighty deluge.
Then the 1800 bend for the actual race when the weather kindly cleared just long enough for the front riders to get up. Soon followed by another deluge.
Still lots of people cheering the back riders despite the ghastly conditions - really heart warming.
I think the boom-boom disco music here is going to continue all night . . . rolling eyes

We started off near the finish line in Villages, grabbing a great spot until surrendering to the deluge as the caravan arrived, we de-camped at Plagne Centre in Le Brix bar. Then saw race at bend in Plagne Centre before walking back to Belle Plagne.
A great experience despite the weather.

eblunt, Blast, for many people the Tour was obviously a major event.
There was a lot of excitement, a huge buildup, and a lot of people.
But as an enjoyable event, the Etape on Sunday was way better.
The sunny weather helped, but 16,000 "ordinary" riders doing the same route ** as the Tour was a much better experience.
It also helped that some of our friends were riding.
The riders didn't just zip past in 10 minutes, but came past in a steady stream all afternoon and on into sunset.
Some bright and breezy and smiling, some looking quite unwell and longing for the agony to end.
Super heroes, one and all
A really massive event. And great fun.

** Actually the Etape riders did the whole planned stage run of 130km - the tour guys yesterday did a shortened course of 95km due to an outbreak of contagious nodular dermatitis affecting cattle in a herd located specifically in the Col des Saisies.

@Jonpim, I was quite a annoyed by ITV4’s coverage which said that is was a farmers protest which shortened the stage.

From everything I’ve read here it the cattle disease caused it

Disease caused mass culling caused farmer's understandable distress caused change in route.

Watching the French coverage, the director explained that although this disease is only spread by flying insects, the risk of a fly, carrying the disease, being transported unwittingly to a new destination, was not something that the directors of the tour were willing to take.

Now whether in reality this was a thinly veiled excuse to cover up a potential protest that had happened is up for debate, but the official line is that it was shortened to prevent possible spread of the disease

@boredsurfin, that is a bummer: it was perfectly situated between Weldom and Leclerc for essential shopping, with a jolly café next door.
And they closed the Decathlon in Uxbridge back in April which was also a real nuisance.
