Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Verbier 4 Vallées 2022/2023

Time to kick this off with snow on the way this week!

Here’s last years thread for reference
https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=156650&start=0

After a sizzling, dry Summer the glacier is looking pretty sorry for itself so let’s hope the precipitation Gods are ready to unleash their fury this Winter!

The main lift news for the season is a new covered 6 man over in Bruson which should make those storm days much more comfortable!

They’re also building a new viewing platform up at Mont Fort

More here: https://planetski.eu/2022/09/14/whats-new-in-verbier-for-next-winter/

Earl bird lift passes at 1249chf until 30th September. The Parrain pass is still 999chf if you can find someone. Any new seasonaires please PM me!!!

Good news about the new 6-man in Bruson. Been over there a couple of times in great heavy snow conditions but the old chair was a bit of a trial sometimes. Hopefully they can do something with the T-bar over the back too one day - my least favourite type of lift

That is next on the list. Next year a new chair is planned from the bottom of the red Pissevache piste (the one accessed from the Grand Tsai drag lift or the path 50m above the restaurant) up to the Col de Chargerat (just down from the Six Blanc peak so 150m higher than the current highest point). That will make the drag lift pretty redundant and make the access to the Canadian forest much easier (not necessarily a good thing…)

What depth of fresh snow were you skiing on? I'm guessing there was artificial beneath the fresh?

About 15cm of natural snow and the cannons blowing on top of it. Suspect they’ll open Lac des Vaux next week-end

Nice. How long does it usually take to open a few other areas? Not sure it's worth the drive over from Cham until there's a little bit more open...

@polo, The free passes definitely work early doors.
In the pre Covid years we always went to Verbier Pre-season.
From here its about 1h20 to Le Chable.
Parking in Le Chable is better now with the extended car park on the station roof, but I am contemplating going by train from Monthey for the princely sum of 8.80 Chf and the train takes 58 mins. So the whole journey would take a bit longer as it takes 40 mins to get to Monthey, but less driving is appealling.
We noticed the opening pattern is normally:
1st Weekend Lac de Vaux
2nd Weekend Lac de Vaux 1&2 James Blunt / Ruinettes
3rd Weekend Loads more depending on snow coverage.

As per @WindOfChange really depends on snow conditions more than lifts as from Attelas you have tons of terrain. This weekend it will literally just be the piste from Attelas down to Lac des Vaux that’s skiable. Only worth it if you are desperate to get back on skis. If there’s more snow you could also ski down to Ruinettes. And if it’s cold all the way down, you could ski down into town and ski all the Attelas couloirs / Col des Mines etc. Next area to open would be La Chaux. And from December 1st or 2nd weekend the higher lifts snow cover permitting. Savoleyres / La Tzoumaz / Nendaz side usually around the same time. Bruson from mid Dec.

^thanks....think I'll wait a bit, usually only use 1-2 days out of the 5 free ones so need to try harder....and this could well be the year if the snowline stays high

Keeping an eye on this thread, just booked some flights into GVA 18th Dec and looks like Verbier is actually getting some new snow currently!

Any tips for places to stay? Will be me and a mate, so twin room, B&B is about all we are looking for! Is there any benefit of staying in Val de Bagnes? Assume a bit cheaper and need to get the gondola up to Verbier? We aren't that fussed about mega nightlife, a beer or 2 apres ski and a decent meal after a shower is fine!

There's a hostel inside the gondola building at Le Chable - basic but from reports perfectly OK, called the Mt.Fort Swiss Lodge. This has various shared room options including twin. This is right in the same building as the new railway station, so easy to get to/from Geneva Airport by train with no need to hire a car. The lift up to Verbier Médran and Attelas is now classified as public transport, so is open longer hours than the resort's other ski lifts. But you might prefer something slightly less basic and there are various other such places in Le Chable. The Swiss Lodge is not to be confused with the Cabane du Mt.Fort up the mountain, although the latter would be great for a night or two.

Unless there’s a big price difference I’d stay in Verbier especially now with the new lift at Medran. The hotel Bristol is good value and gets positive feedback from everyone I’ve sent there and great central location. Finish with a happy hour beer at Pub Mont Fort, roll down the hill to the hotel, burger at the Shed, Sushi at Aiseki, cuzza at Gunpowder, Italian at La Nonna, Swiss cheese at La Cabane all on the doorstep. Farinet round the corner for some late night action. Rinse and repeat.

Mais bien sûre it’s mid-November but the wind has drifted the snow nicely so the right aspects are already in good shape. Another 50cm next week would be nice snowHead
