Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sunday sounds a little violent with some snow probably falling across the slopes at Raise, though probably not enough to ski...even if you could stand up Laughing

At least its a change from the rubbish we've had here recently.

Winds will continue to be a major problem with severe
gale or storm force westerly winds. Again severe wind-
chill with the freezing level lowering to 600M. Sunny
spell and blustery sleet and snow showers.

Possibility of some build up over the next 4 days.

Could that make it three years in a row for first natural non glacier Euro lift served skiing ? snowHead

Not quite. Hochgurgl has been open for some weeks, as has Ishgl - neither of which are glacier resorts.

Raise should be operational today and with good visibility it could be spectacular ! snowHead

Weardale may be operational on Wednesday. The wind has been in the wrong direction for Yad Moss so far.

Deep snow covering the runs, despite todays thaw and big winds.

More snow reaching the Lakes overnight and the westerly winds continuing.

Could this be another 1991 situation with snow falling on and off into next week and the build up getting bigger and bigger Puzzled

These north west snow bearing winds seem to be the very best for raise? Thats what it looks like it from the angle of the slope and the terrain.
The two Pennine sites on Burnhope Seat are best for north and east winds.
what about weardale? does it just catch what it can, but holds it for longer due to the aspect?

Wanted to say a massive thanks to the Lovely people at raise. What a club! Fun hike up, we came as a party of 3 with forms and cash. Very warm welsom, some great skiing and even managed to get uninterrupted fresh pow for at least 200 vertical metres on the ride home! As a weardale member I have to say hats off to Raise for the friendliest membership and most enthusiastic committee! We will definitely back if/when the snow allows!

The snow blew in again last night so there was more digging today but the tow ran from 11;30am and by the look of it the skiing would have been very good indeed with at least 1800 feet of vertical down to the car park possible.

They found the Powder Room roof anyway. Shocked

Unfortunately the temperature is going sky high during the week so there will be some serious loss but hopefully with such an enormous base now in there should be something left for the holidays ?

No piste basher, a load of shovels though to clear a channel for the tow Smile

Check the Snowline for the latest updates on when the tow will be running.

Some good skiing was had by the lucky few today in the Lakes. Still over 6 feet of snow outside the new 'Powder Room' at raise..... or should that be the 'ice' room ?

Rick,

Cool zonality isn't particularly good news for Yad Moss as its straight up the slope. We really need easterlies, but we have still managed three days so far including a superb day on the Sunday before Christmas :

Had a walk up Harter Fell over to Riggindale Crag from Sadgill, Longsleddale, north of Kendal on Saturday.. We were amazed at the quality and depth of the snow on the tops, which in place was up to my hips and I am 6'1". The sun was out and it was absolutely gorgeous with wispy cloud and blue skies. I just kept on imagining what a team of Italian pisteurs could do to that corner of the lakes, given the right machinery. wink wink wink wink

I can see plenty of snow on the side of the Peak District from my office in S. Manchester... Daydreaming about skiing rather than working...

Would imagine there's a pretty decent amount in the Lakes too (as there is in that vid), especially if the current forecasts for cold and snow next week come true! I should really get up there at some point.

Peter S, Thanks, another great video from Gordie.

One question though, how does his dog get back down the hill?

Presumably he has to wait for the dog to catch up at the bottom!
