Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hello,

Just bought my first pair of skis (Atomic Theory)...... Do I need t odo anything with them (Other than strap them to me feet and chuck my self down a mountain)?

ie, do they need any waxing / other prep before I go to Whistler in Dec?

I got them at EB, Straight out of the wrappers.

Cheers

I always check that the DIN & forward pressure settings on the bindings are correct.

some skis come with a reasonable tune from the factory, but not always...you could ask the shop to evaluate when you get your bindings checked

Thanks,

Ellis Brigham fitted the bindings and set the DIN on the day so hopefully thats all ok. wondering more about any prepping of the base before using them?

j4meseaton, I always like to check because mistakes can be made (for example if someone got distracted).

If you have got the right equipment to wax your own skis then you could use something like this Dominator Zoom Purple Base Renew Wax to prep the skis.

If you can have a lesson with Jons Ski Tuning up in Nottingham.

I was thinking of buying the Atomic theory but was put off by the twin tip, I am now leaning towards the Nordica Hell and back. I have still not made my mind up yet.

I always service my new skis, sharpen the edges, dull the tip and tail edges and give them a good wax.
They come with factory wax which is fine for transporting them but I prefer a ski serviced to my style of skiing.

Elston +1 on always checking the bindings. I had problems with new bindings on their first run off-piste on the Grand Montet last year. Important lesson leant. Check the setting and check that everything that should be tight is tight and everything that shouldn't be tight isn't.

j4meseaton check with the shop where you bought them - sometimes they will wax them before they fit the bindings (Edge & Wax for example actually tell you this on their website).

Whenever I've bought new skis they've been handed over as "ready to go" (whatever that means). And I've taken them at their word.
