I wear orthotic inserts in most normal shoes/boots because I have very flat feet (it helps the old achilles).
Do other orthotic users wear them in ski boots? Wouldn't have thought so because I ain't gonna be doing too much walking in them.......

OH does - his proprioception is very much based on the orthotics so struggled to ski without them. He's not flat footed though - ridiculously high arches instead, but needed orthotics for some kind of ankle issue the exact details of which escape me entirely...

I tried using my everyday shoe ones (I use them all the time too) in my ski boots and it was awful.
I'm with davkt on the custom footbeds option.

I do - used to just use the same ones I had in my shoes but last year I had new orthotics made and they made me another pair specially for my ski boots. If you wear them in normal shoes you probably should wear similar (orthotics or custom footbeds) in ski boots as it affects pretty much all of your legs - my orthotics are really for the benefit of my knees so absolutely have to wear them when I'm skiing!! Definitely worth having something custom fitted for your boot tho - custom footbeds never worked for me so needed to get the actual orthotics (but I have very wonky feet and legs apparently!) but I know they're perfect for many people

I've got some carbon insole things, I wear them in my ski boots. Tried skiing without them, didn;t like it.

dobby, Given how much of skiing is born by the feet i would suggest almost defiantly.

dobby, since the biomechanics of walking are different from the biomechanics of skiing, surely you wouldn't put your walking orthotics in your ski boots? Rather, you'd have skiing-specific footbeds made.

I use orthotics for running, and have found them to be useful whilst skiing also. My orthotics correct for quite bad overpronation (ankles roll in) - I found they prevent me getting painful bruising around the ankles as my feet are more stable in the boots.

I used to use my running orthotics in ski boots but then decided to have some made specifically for skiing. The corrections on both for my biomechanical problems are pretty much identical but the skiing orthotics are made from firmer cork and their overall footprint is slightly smaller to suit my ski boot liners.

As I don't own a pair of boots yet (whether I get some of my own will depend on whether Santa thinks I have been a good boy), I think I'll try my shoe inserts in hire boots at the dry slope and see if there is an improvement in comfort/support (ha, ha, comfort? support? in hire boots? I hear you say). Dobby.

dobby, Definatly get your own boots.
I wear orthotics, I'm the same as you and have flat feet but I wear custon insoles made by CME for ski boots seems to work for me

dobby, I would strongly reccommend getting boots properly fitted, I thought I didn;t have feet issues, until I got a new pair of boots.
With proper boot fitting, with off the shelf insoles added, to support my arch (although I have never used them in shoes).
The result was my skiing improved last easter, even with the poor conditions.
We have just come back from solutions 4 feet, where we got my wife a new pair of new boots, properly fitted with insoles.
My wife has been walking around home in them for an hour, without any complaints or pain - she is ecstatic.
Whilst there they had a look at my boots, as I get cramp in the outside ball of my right foot for the 1st hour of skiing.
They confirmed high arches (he could get 4 fingers underneath when in a skiing stance) but also a heel issue.
So I now have heel supports in and custom made insoles, my boots now fit perfectly and they feel like new boots altogether.
I really feel it is money well spent and I can't wait to try our boots out at Tamworth on Friday night.

Hi all. I may have left it too late now, as we are going skiing on January 3rd, but does anyone know of anywhere to do this in the Dorset or Hampshire area? I know that I over pronate and just generally feel that my position in the boots could be improved.
I have Snowtrax just down the road and although they do have a boot fitter I don't know how good they are.
I am going to drop down there, but would rather have a personal recommendation if there is one.

I think it unlikely you'll get anything done before going away, but why not try and find somewhere in resort that could do it, and arrange an appt so they know you're coming. There's plenty of good fitters in various resorts.

Hmm. That's a good idea. Not sure why I didn't think of it. Other than that I am probably still trying to clear the brain of the last few days' alcohol excesses.... Off to La Tania so I should be able to find someone down the road in Courchevel.

How strange. Her son Sam gave us instruction last year and we had Di.net with them! I forgot she was a podiatrist, as last season she was not able to practice due to French requirements for qualifications I think. I will give Sam a call and get her number, or look on that link. Cheers!

Hey im just about to go skiing does anybody know if non custom orthotic insoles will work?
what i was gonna put in my shoes and my skiing boots where some 34 length orthotic insoles i bought from nuovahealth haven't tried them yet will they work as well?
