Poster: A snowHead
|
New Zealand's most talked-about ski and board development is the 2-year-old Snowpark, near Wanaka on the south island. This custom-designed freestyle terrain park is attracting a lot of international interest, including that of the world's highest-paid snowboarder Shaun White, from San Diego in California.
This report from Stuff.co.nz.
The Snowpark website is well worth a look.
[NB. The headline income of Shaun White is quoted in NZ dollars]
Anyone seen Snowpark?

There's some info coming in on this. More details to come.

back in the days... of 1997
snowboarders already seemed much more dominant in NZ. Lots of Japanese all on snowboards as I recall and they're usually not short of a bob or two -so I guess the resorts have made sure they cater for them properly

David Goldsmith, they're only an add on for a snow cat, usually driven by the snowcat's internal systems so not perhaps as expensive as you might think, basically it's a modified conveyor belt design and they've been arround for ages

Yeah Tignes had a decent pipe last year. However the park there is absolutely shoking. They could do SO much more but just dont want to. Probably scared of loads of people injuring themselves or something. Or maybe because the European resorts are run by more seperate groups than north american and southern hemishphere ones. But no one in Europe can seem to organise a decent park, possibly with the exception of Portes de Soleil (going on heresay, I havent been there though, so I cant really say!). But it would be really easy in some places to build the jumps up in the ground so they done need masses of snow to make big kickers. CAN WE HAVE MORE ORGANISATION PLEASE!
not that anyone is going to be listening
