I was wondering how often skis got nicked at the cairngorms? whether i should get a ski lock or whether i should just leave them outside?
thanks a lot!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Ha Ha I looked at the title of the thread and wondered how anyone had stolen part of the Cairngorms - doh!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

No more than anywhere else i would have thought. A lock is no bad idea for any resort and best not to leave anything hanging about bottom station right beside the getaway vehicles at any resort

I shared a couple of weeks with a ski patroller up there earlier in the year. He reckons that stuff hardly ever goes missing - telling tales of skis that had been outside for days. Another of our party accidentally left her skis up there and went back after lectures - they were still there. Most of us left stuff all day upstairs in the Cas bar and it was never touched.
That's not to say it will never happen but I think it's better than most places. There again, perhaps gear left around at Cairngorm is less 'twinkley' than at many resorts.

so, not to have it all kick off again (Jockie Macgrumpy will be along shortly to sort ye oot!! ), is the thread title singling out one area where there does not appear to be a particular issue, potentially giving would-be patrons an inaccurate and negative impression??
should/could OP change title to a generic one? that way we can all relate stories of any incidents encountered, or warnings to be aware of, regardless of location.
I reckon there are as many if not more thieving pikey c**ts doing the rounds at Klosters, St. Moritz, Lech etc as there are at Cairngorm or anywhere - no need to single anywhere in particular out in a thread title unless there is at least a confirmed series of incidents to warrant it?
just sayin....

I'm not caring whether there's a lot of thefts in general, i want to know the cairngorms specifically, as all resorts are clearly different.
thanks a lot altis!

mag1882, answer is no (and I speak with a lot of days under my belt up there), but do you care that the title questions that fact to everyone who sees it?? I wouldnt like any area called out, regardless if you want a specific answer or not. Thread title is a little suggestive and could give people the wrong impression. You might not care, but some do.

mag1882, backing up barry, your OP is not constructive. I've had a season ticket for the last 5-6 seasons at Cairngorm and never had or heard of an issue with kit going AWAL, nor at any other Scottish resorts. I have had a pair of rentals disappear in La Plagne a few years ago though. Interested as to why the specific interest in Cairngorm.

He was asking specifically about Cairngorms - no-one's gonna assume Cairngorms have loads of thefts based on one topic title on snowHeads.
Scot_Ski, maybe he skis at Cairngorm a lot? That's what I assumed........

thanks for clarifying why, yeah i've adjusted it.
And yeah i ski at cairngorms a lot and just got some scott punishers with griffons and i wouldn't be too pleased if they went missing. Even thought nobody really steals anything i'm going to still padlock them as it only takes like 20 seconds.

Yep, a little bit of care is what it boils down to & there's no point denying thefts happen at Cairngorm from time to time. Because Brits on foreign holidays tend to rent their kit, they don't mind so much when it gets stolen but as ski / board ownership amongst Brits in Scotland is probably higher than amongst Brits in the Alps, there'll be a lot more personal kit hanging around without 'PROPERTY OF XXXX' hot branded into the topsheet. Cairngorm's Cas is at a dead end road but the South Central Groms resort you alluded to has racks of skis about 10 seconds walk off of a major A-Road looking like easy pickings. We all (well most of us that don't bury our heads in the sand at least) know that poo-poo happens at Cairngorm as much as anywhere else in the skiing universe & I'm actually more surprised that a lot more stuff doesn't get stolen when I see it sitting around unattended and unprotected with no possible owners anywhere in sight.
