Just trying to decide between the two.
I won't use the GPS, but quite like the fact that bluetooth is included so I can preview on my Android/iPhone and make some camera setting changes from there.
BUT if I read it correctly I can buy the cheaper non GPS version and add their connect card to give me the same functionality.

Is that correct?
There is a guy on ebay in the US with some very good prices, the standard model + connect kit would be £25 cheaper than the GPS version.
cheers,
Greg

For the sake of £25 I'd get the GPS version and have it built in.

Based on this comparison http://contour.com/products/compare_cameras you cannot use it on the Contour Roam (the base model).
NB: It's only included with the Plus model - you'll still need to buy the card with the ContourGPS.

kitenski, now i did not know that, so can you record straight onto your android via blue tooth?
I like the look of the new Roam for being a bit more robust and waterproof

You'll need to Register first of course.

livetoski, no you can use the phone as a viewfinder for the camera, cam still records to its onboard chip. Been looking at the Contour+ myself, pretty much decided to buy one for next year to replace current kit.

The old kit is beginning to look a bit heath-robinson, so time to refresh before the trip in January. If you get a supply line, i'd be interested to know.

kitenski, I just got a brand new Contour HD 1080 for £139.00 on ebay
I don’t see much point in paying that much more for the GPS model if it’s only for the view finder.
IMO if that’s what you won’t you may as well get the Gopro you get a view finder and you can play back on the LCD screen what you have just recorded. The play back seem much more useful to me

I got mine in the USA, think it was £15 more for the GPS Model, which I think is worthwhile for the viewfinder....don't like the look of the gopro!!

I was also looking at these and wasn't sure which to go for. I liked the features of the Plus more than the Roam, especially being a gadget geek with the iphone connection. But was concerned that it didn't state being waterproof, which the roam is. You can always add on the waterproof case but now just adding more to the even higher price.

You know it makes sense.

Ah just read that the Plus is water resistant so should be perfectly fine to use in decent conditions. Have emailed them to check and will let you know.

Here's what they said, hope it helps:
Thanks for contacting Contour Technical Support. While the Contour Plus is
water resistant - it is not waterproof. Thus we very strongly recommend
you use a waterproof case for snowy use. We do not want you to risk
damaging the camera and voiding your warranty.

Good post mydigitalself, worth noting. I will say that the bullet camera i've been using for the past 8 years ( ) is listed as water resistant too, and i've never had a problem with snow, but then construction of one thing isn't that of another, so maybe the Roam is the answer.

I reckon the Plus would be just fine for fair weather conditions, if you stack it such that your head ends up under a foot of snow, that may not be the case although your camera is probably the least of your worries in that situation!
I'm going to the Metro Snow show thing at Earls Court on Friday and will look out for any retailers selling the Contours and ask about them too.
I was previously looking at the Go Pro seen my friend's Contour HD (he uses it on his bike helmet) I'm convinced this is the right brand to go for because of the form factor.

Actually how the cam performs when you DO stack it is of interest. The old kit held up remarkably well, have some nice footage of some of my less proud moments. The only problem I've had before now with the bullet cam was with light condensation forming on the inside of the outer glass after i'd given it a faceful of snow on a powder day, fixed with a wipe down with an anti-mist cloth.

Will be there on Friday too though in evening, also going to see if I can track down livetoski who is illegedly going to be hanging around the Whitedot stand, see if he's found a supply chain for the contours yet...

It was the form factor that appealed to me too, the bullet is tiny and wouldn't like to give that up.
