Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Swiss Transfer Ticket now 99 pounds

Thats a 16% price rise since last year!

What better way to encourage us to head off to the Swiss resorts that make it even more expensive. Anyone know a cheaper way to get from Zurich to Laax?

Drluvski, There is a transfer bus from Zurich airport which was cheaper than the train when I went. However if going with kids (who are free on the train) it works out more expensive. Link to it on the Laax site.

Also it's worth checking whether a normal train ticket is actually cheaper, it isn't that far.

I'm afraid a lot is due to the increasingly strong Swiss Franc, The transfer ticket is priced in Swiss Francs but the UK office only changes the price in pounds once or maybe twice a year the actual price of the Transfer ticket in Swiss Francs has barely changed in something like 10 years but the exchange rate in that time has gone from around 2.2 Francs to the pound down to as low as 1.16 Francs to the pound in August this year Sad

Ouch, paid £79 in August. Just had ten wonderful days in the Valais so will just have to pay the price next year.

it still compares quite favourably with a lot of transfers - e.g. Geneva to 3 Valleys.

The transfer bus only runs at weekends, and I think Thursdays. If your plans fit that then I think it is the good bet. I'm going there but on the wrong days so I looked at the train prices. From memory the normal train ticket was going to be around £70, so certainly cheaper than the transfer ticket.

D G Orf, That's never going to be a pleasant figure to look up Sad However, right now, a return from Zürich Airport to Laax will cost you CHF112.40 == £79.82 at today's spot rate. Obviously that rate can change, but I'll take a chance on that rather then guarantee to loose out by paying £99 up front.

sah, seems reasonable. as you say it can be worth checking the costs, flying to Geneva or Zurich and then going to Wengen the Transfer ticket will be cheaper I suspect, but going into Bern and it will be cheaper to get a return.

The transfer bus is now 150CHF return so even dearer than a transfer ticket.

Indeed. The journey from ZHR to Laax is pretty short too, so even the "cheap" option is pretty steep in my view, I can easily imagine many other trips where the transfer is the best bet.

Given that there's 4 of us in my case I'm going to look in to a private transfer... there's a chance that could be cheaper I guess.

Much cheaper to rent a car and drive yourself.

It could be, certainly for a short trip, but not in my case. I've already looked in to that. A car big enough for 4 adults + luggage was going to be slightly higher more than the train price.
