Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best Ski / Board Film ?

Hi all,

Recently got 'The Art of Flight' & wow! The camera work is breathtaking and we have watched this over & over again.

Is there any better out there?

Also is there anywhere to see these films on the cinema screen as part of the appeal is the scenic aspects of the shots ? I have been told that the showing of a film at the local Snozone is restricted to an age limit & my 15 yr old is too young to attend as there is a drinks promotion on at the same time rolling eyes

Yeah 'The Art of Flight' was a great piece of film but i got a bit bored in places. I like it raw like Mr Tim Humphreys with his GoPro. Google it and turn the volume up

Or there are oldscholl 2006/7 Volcom vids that do the job.

The Way I see it, by MSP is better than the art of flight, not as good camera work but better crashes and more of a sort of storyline ( if you can have that a snow flick !).

For a boarding film I reckon you'd be hard pressed to beat Shrediquette by Absinthe Films, their finest hour for sure. Sweet riding, awesome camerawork and the bestest soundtrack ever.

Another great snowboard film is Picture This, again great camera work, some sick riding and awesome sound track. Think you can get clips on YouTube Happy

Thats it Thats All - The film prior to The Art of Flight - excellent flick

+1 Shrediquette - i won this in a whitelines comp years ago Razz

Pop - Absinthe movie with awesome soundtrack and some immense riding, T Rice & Romain De Marchi at Chads Gap, was my fave snowboard movie till Thats it Thats All.

Good brit movie from a few years back is Proper, some good slams in that and good soundtrack.

Futureproof - another Absinthe movie, very good.

Thats what will be going on holiday with me this season. Cool

The MSP films are great, I've got Claim and The Way I See It. Claim just wins - if only for the opening sequence alone.

I was a little disappointed with the new one "Attack of la Nina". It was good but not as good as The Way I See It... Sad

try this

http://www.zapiks.com/a-skier-s-journey-la-grave-1.html

posted it last year and a few liked it, a few hated it - personally, I like watching it when I am pining for the mountains, and need to remember that special feel of the early morning in resort....

and then there's this, with the usual heavy metal soundtrack, rubbish camera work and ridiculous energy....

which is just plain silly

Pedantica, ...didn't like the anthropomorphism of '...sometimes she talks to you...' (meaning the mountain - in this case la mieje) and the choughs as people's souls....

well yes, that's all a bit loose, but I really like the feel of this film; it conveys La Grave perfectly, and these guys respect the hill. The music is good - Beatrice Martin - like to put it on as I drive up to the lifts, and my two tiny children associate it with the mountains, and request it when we're in the Flatlands...

parlor, i'm dissapointed to hear that i always look forward to the latest MSP release, although Claim still gets played more than the rest.

The cinema photography or ski movies has been improving over the let few years and the new digital cameras they are using means the quality of most movies is excellent. The thing about claim though is the edit is fantastic, the whole package melds together seamlessly and the choice of songs is inspired.

I live north of leeds, but was seriously (still am) thinking of putting on a ski movie day (call it a mini ski movie festival, poss three or four films) at one of the independent cinemas in Leeds. My wife thinks its a bad idea, she thinks ski movies are just wallpaper in alpine pubs but i'd really like to see a few movies on the big screen. Does anyone think there would be enough interest to make it worth while?

I have a pretty large collection of ski porn and the best has to be STEEP one of the most moving and provoking ski films ever made I think, its almost if some of the people in the film knew that they would not be here for long.

Have to admit first time I watched it almost had a little tear by the end.

Another vote for Steep. Interesting thing about that film is that it started life out as another film (The Edge of Never).
I also really enjoyed JJ's Deeper.

livetoski, Zero-G, Plus 1 for Steep, also comesbwith blizzard of aaah's as a bound disc so bargain.

In a similar vein to steep, a bit of history re told, swift silent deep is quite good.

Is there a version of edge of never as well? I've seen ads on US websites but can't find it anywhere without having to splash a fortune on p&p.

Has anyone seen the fine line (Sherpas cinema)? Another one I'd like to get but p&p stings.

GNAR has got to be the best free movie on the web.

I've looked but haven't found anything that isn't an expensive import. The book was enjoyable though.

Deeper is awesome. I get bored of non-stop ski porn and loath watching hours of spinny, flippy, rails however technically impressive it is. I find stuff with a bit more substance more interesting but I'll still watch the rest.

Am looking forward to the Sweetgrass movie, the Xavier de le Rue movie and the Powderwhore movie (which is out I just haven't got round to buying it).

Blizzard of aaahs, no question. Seminal. Forget maltese flamingo.

Warren miller always a niice psycho warm up to the sveason, but too comical for serious porn.

Dick barrymore always gave me a powder stiffy when i was a kid.

fatbob, ...drat and botheration, these modern popular beat combos are so decidedly difficult to categorise, given the dreadful relentless beat, the lyrics that no sane person from the Home Counties can possibly understand, and the depravity of their lifestyle...

anyone else think ski films are way too short and way too pricey? I like more a docu / travel diary type effort that simply 55 mins or whatever of just skiing and the latest way-cool sounds. I quite liked "Lines", still a bit short (and a board film), but more interesting to see some (albeit shot in super-cool stylee) offhill / travel diary type segments

I like a good story wiv me 'ardcore porn an' all Toofy Grin

How can we be expected to get up and go to work on a Monday morning when we could be doing stuff like that instead (well, maybe not quite like that)...

SKI OR DIE 4-EVER from Niklas Karlström
http://vimeo.com/28394910

A fan of quite a few Swedish videos. The backflip off a cliff in I think it is Montgenevre is the highlight of this video, nuttah!

Shame that quite a lot of ski videos have poor soundtracks. This one is a bit better starting off with The xx.

Aren't they, can't wait to see the full film and have already ordered the DVD from their site given the buzz the film is creating at it's premiered over in NA ... have also e-mailed them to find out about organising screenings over here (there's one in London but that's it so far) Toofy Grin
