Yes,Kersh is right, wait for Waynos and Flangsax for info. Thanks to their help I have set up a visit for the first time Jan 2012.
Tickets are already on sale via Schladming ticket office (www.thenightrace.at/tickets). You will find accommodation next to impossible in Schladming itself, but Flangsax is based in nearby Radstadt. I hope you've also considered taking in the Kitzbuhel races the weekend before.
Cynic, not sure about Matt nowadays, rather put money on Herbst.

jean claude mont blanc, I went last year.. great night out. They have a big screen up in the town at the bottom, lots of drink flowing and great atmosphere.

Fantastic event, great atmosphere, always snows on night race night in my experience (4 years running). Can get red tickets on the day, about 16euros, all other tickets are probably sold out already but check http://www.thenightrace.at/tickets/ticketbestellung-2012.html
The event doesn't impact the available skiing much and it doesn't get much busier on the slopes as many fans come in for the day from around austria just to drink and watch the race.

Great time to come to schladming, there will be about 50,000 people here so great atmoshpere in town and they've already started the grooming of the piste! Wrap up warm as it's very cold at the moment! there may be a few queues for the ski lifts but it will be worth it when you get here!
