Poster: A snowHead

Will end up skiing at half term again with horizon jr and my parents. We'll probably go for two weeks, 11 - 25 Feb. I know we won't avoid crowds, but what should be better: France knowing that the second week will be overrun with both the French and British, or Austria /Dolomites knowing that the first week will be overrun with Bavarians?
We've gone at half term to France before (Serre Chevalier last time) and survived despite the longish morning queues, so horror stories won't truly deter us!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I think the Bavarian holiday is actually the second week of the period you mention.

The first week is UK holiday, the 2nd week is also Fasching. If you can run to it Switzerland ought to be quiet. I went to Laax at half term in 2010 (it was also Fasching) and hardly saw a queue all week.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I see, got the dates wrong. Thanks guys.
The question still remains though, slightly modified...what's likely to be less busy in the week of 18-25 Feb? I would guess for the week before Austria / Italy is the answer.

horizon, pretty sure the first week is not only UK but is Paris zone too That said we are stuck with it too. I would go Swiss if I had my choice but probably won't get it.

horizon, I'd concentrate on finding an unknown to main stream tour operators resort/area, rather than worry about country, St Gervais, Espace Diamant, Engelberg, Val D'Annivers, Stuben all spring to mind......

I went to Engelberg at half term a couple of years ago... Queues in the morning were up to an hour to get out of the village. According the locals this was normal for that week.
I'd look further east - e.g. Ski Amade in Austria. Obviously Germans and Austrians go skiing too, but these areas seem less hectic than the French resorts (and Engelberg).

Have you considered Spain? - The Spanish don't do half term so, particularly weekdays, can be calm compared with the rest of Europe are havin mad Febuary.

You know it makes sense.

We have skied in Andorra the last 3 half terms and other than parties of British school kids things in general quite quiet. We have just booked an apartment in one of the lesser known French ski areas and our apartment was priced nearly 50% more for the following week so am hope this can only be a good indicator that UK half term week won't be too mobbed!
