Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Over on "the other side", there was a thread about the best deals for annual cover Inc skiing/winter sports.
Without wanting to open the floodgates of which is best etc. I remember there being some good deals.
I have just got my renewal notice (from Barclaycard) for the family for annual cover plus winter sports. Its £95 in total.
If you know a better deal please post.

Primary direct were pretty cheap too, I've used them in the past.

I tend to use the SCGB insurance as it has very comprehensive coverage including unaccompanied off-piste, snow mobiling and heliskiing. It also offers unlimited days skiing.

It's not the cheapest, but looking at the small print, I think that it is the best.

Nadenoodlee, A little absent minded there ?

Anyway I use http://www.snowcard.co.uk not the cheapest but they offer good levels of cover and the policy comes complete with a nice plastic card for you to slip in your jacket pocket, much more resistant to ski conditions than the paper form

Well I thought I was covered on my mums policy - however because i dont live at home anymore ( im a grown up) I wasnt, thought I might have been covered on my credit card- but remebered I paid with switch, then finally I realised I hadnt even taken the bloomin first choice cover! Luckily I was too ummm sleepy to ski too hard, took a killer fall on the piste trying to take a shortcut to the bar tho

Lucie, make sure you are covered for off piste skiing as well as on piste, it's verry easy in some areas to go off piste, it might even be between two pistes with a well used path so it does'nt appear to be off piste, but insurance companies who don't cover for off piste without a guide will do everything in their power not to pay out if you do stray off and then have an accident.

Did that make sense ? only I'm a little tired Confused

Yep, I always go for the off piste cover. We could ski back to the door in the hotel we stayed in last week, but it was classed as off piste (more like "back garden")

apart from off piste skiing, which may be classed as anything not pisted by a grooming machine, you have to look out for the ski racing exemption . If you come a cropper on the end of ski school fun race are you covered, or if you go down a NASTAR track in the US. On the basis that getting it wrong may be very expensive I just paid for the Ski Club insurance which covers amateur recreational racing for my Whistler trip where I did the Dave Murray course which has a lot of gate training and Ski Esprit which has fun race on the last day. Didnt fall once- on the basis I went pretty slowly !!-but who needs to worry about insurance when you are on holiday.

Another vote for insure and go - although my little plastic card has been replaced twice and they still can't spell my name correctly - I guess Welly Ski is an unusal name and they are probably perplexic.....

One point: BEWARE pre-existing conditions. My parents' insurers would not fly them home from Barbados in January when my brother died; as they claimed an (unconnected to his death) condition had not been disclosed when they took out the policy (thankfully local Bristish Airways were fab and just booked them on next flight in first class for gratis)

When I redid my policy in February I asked if I needed to disclose things as daft as my high Cholesterol and my son's Eczema - yes they said: "everything". Moral - tell the b*star*s about everything and everyone you can think of and you are likely to get the policy benefits if you actually end up needing them (which is why we pay our £90 isn't it...)

Another good point there, yes the slimey fellows will always try to get out of paying if they can, I even declare my hayfever on my winter insurance because that way they can't complain.

I've gone with insure and go for the last couple of years and claimed twice, once for lost baggage my case vanished for 3 days and once for a cancellation due to a health issue. They've been great (for insurers) but like already said, you need to disclose anything and everything. But remember to read the small print as thier insurance is not as comprehensive as some, but it is good value for money in my opinion.

With the SCGB insurance, do you have to be a member? Mr Geetee and I will be doing (hopefully) about 3.5 to 4 weeks of skiing this season and we'd want annual travel cover too that also includes our 3 year old. Can anyone tell me if SCGB would still be a good choice for us? We might get around to doing either some heli or cat skiing on our trip to Whistler (fingers crossed and finances available! Laughing ) Thanks!

interesting read, i'm in the process off sorting out a weeks worth of insurance - not sure where to look, ideally wanting something that covers the usual things, but also abit of off piste (no major back country stuff, but still unguided) and something that will insure me properly if i have any accidents in the park... attempting freestyle. i had a quick look at dogtag - would they be suitable? i'm open to suggestions as well.

cheers

geetee, Now that they have ditched Primary it may be better. There have been threads full of woes and aggressive "claims management" over on the club forum. What did it for me was the failure to send out proper documents, and then when I rang up, to be told, "we cannot find any record of your policy, but if you have paid us you will be ok..." As I was about to go off to the US where no Insurance = lose your house, I was underwhelmed.

I am sure things will have improved with the new policies, but I am going to wait and see... till then Dogtag gives good turn around of the basic admin and includes un-guided off-piste cover. You have to really look at the small print of any policy if you want this.

I fully agree. The insurance subject has been discussed endlessly on here and a common theme seems to be how cheap it can be bought for. I don't see many snowHead s going out to buy the cheapest skis or the cheapest boots. There's no reason why travel insurance should be much different to any commodity... you (generally) get what you pay for.

Post office was best for me, for annual cover, world wide, multi trip including USA. I was suprrised as a couple of years ago I decleared a couple of med problems and was referred to the help line which upped the premium rather a lot. This time, reading the small print, it said that if there was no change in condition - ie, stable with medication - then no extra premium. The cover supplied is also very good. I phoned and they confirmed! Just over £90 last April. Not bad cover for 2 ski trips in Bettex, France, 2 weeks in Portugal, a week in USA and, hopefully, one more week in Bettex. Mind you, with all this travel recently I am now broke!

Bode Swiller, yes, but there's cheap and there's value for money. I do compare policies before I buy, and Direct Travel is good value, as well as one of the cheapest, and includes unguided off-piste.

Value for money is they key - buy for what you need. There is no need to get world wide cover, for example, if you only ski in Europe. Or £500 ski replacement cover if you are skiing on 10 year old planks! (Like me until last season! Embarassed Hey, I was used to them! snowHead )
