Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Heliskiing??

Hi. Fist of all, what is heli-skiing? Do you jump out of the helicopter, or does it just take you to off-piste places??
Is it worth doing - going Les Arcs, and have read that they offer it. Depending on cost, I may do it. I an intermediate - mainly reds - did one black by mistake this year. Any advice would be great
thanks

Jon Ford, You can jump out of the heli if you fancy that but I think you may need to take a few pairs of spare pants Shocked They usually land so you can then ski off piste.

In Les Arc, you can arrange it however they are not allowed to land in France only take off, so they will set you down in Italy, then ski back. The people to talk to are http://www.tarentaise-tours.com/ but make sure your wallet has a very large bottom.

From what you have said regarding your skiing level, then it maybe an idea to get some off piste instruction and guiding in first to take full advantage of heli skiing.

Fully agree with livetoski - if you're intermediate level do some offpiste ski training long before you get in a heli. Otherwise there's a fair chance that (should they take you on) you will either a) injure yourself or at least b) make things very miserable for everyone else who will need to wait for you on the first (and only) run you will do.

I'm not trying to be negative here, I'm sure that most heliski trips are not aimed at hardcore steep terrain enthusiasts, but even on an average run, a decent black run skier with no offpiste experience is likely to be surprised by variable 3D snow, made worse psychologically by being far away from a piste.
