Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

allanm, some of the pistes have MOVED, I will let you work that one out. Some bus timings are different, ski schools have changed, some bars have new owners, others are not there anymore, even some buildings have gone and others been built etc etc. Maybe over in Peisey everything is a little slower Toofy Grin Laughing (although I do believe even you have a new piste) but in the bigger picture things have moved on quite a bit since he was here. On the snow front, was looking at a friends pics of the last few days and plenty of blue sky everywhere and not much sign of snow below 2500m. But it is forecast to get colder and snow rolling eyes later in the week, maybe. If we get another week of this we might have to start doing the snow dance or we might not have a base by 10 December.

Nope, sorry Peisey / Valandry is the same place, yes a few pistes may have changed - prices gone up, pubs gone bust and few paint jobs, but the overall view BB gives is still a true reflection on the village. It gives people insight on what to expect in Peisey / Valandry - there are no other threads do this better.... Ok.. yet.

Just been looking at the latest pics of the new Mont Blanc Chair. Work is progressing well and it should be ready for the start of the season. Safety testing results soon.

Here is a link to the French page with the pics: http://www.remontees-mecaniques.net/forums/index.php?s=8de1b0d4bb3be48b2b466313cffa307b&showtopic=12457&st=60

Hi all.

This may well have already been covered so please accept my apologies if I've missed it..... The link to buy Les Arcs lift passes online (http://lesarcs.paradiski.com/) only really seems to cover season passes. Does anyone know where I can get individual week passes online? I'm sure I've been to the webpage but I can't find it anywhere now. Cheers.

orangekss, It has been mentioned on the previous page but it is not easy to find.

They currently only have season passes available to buy online at the Les Arcs website but shorter duration ones should be available there soon. You can currently buy the full Paradiski lift pass for between 3 to 15 days at the La Plagne website.

I have a separate thread about buying passes for La Plagne and Paradiski here http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=81248&highlight=
I will update that when I find out if it is possible to buy other than season passes on the Les Arcs website.

Hi guys,

I'm coming out to Les Arcs on the Durham Uni trip in early January. I did a season in Scotty's (Plagne Centre) a few seasons back so know the skiing/off piste around there quite well, but don't know Les Arcs' stuff as only got to come over a few times, and when I did I wasn't with strong skiers. Has anyone got any recommendations for some good off piste?

Cheers all.

streetoflong, Welcome to snowheads.

There's a thread right here on off-piste in LA.. quite amusing in places too.

Someone will be along to say get the kit, learn to use it, hire a guide and check your insurance... in a mo.

skichampcouk, As I mentioned in my earlier post here and also over on your other thread, I think you need to be careful in recommending people buy their Les Arcs Paradiski pass from the La Plagne web link if they will be based in Les Arcs. If they have a problem with their pass Les Arcs lift pass office may well tell them to go all the way to La Plagne Centre to sort out the problem, plus if it does not work they might not be allowed to ski over.

It would be much safer for everyone on the Les Arcs side to just wait until the online link is open and they can order it for the station where they are staying. There is NO difference in the price.

I have known people to have this problem in the past so everyone, my advice orangekss, be careful where you buy your pass.

allanm, I forgot all about that thread, thanks for finding the link as I plan to update it a bit more this season as we were chatting about earlier.

streetoflong, If you do have all the gear and are coming out on the Uni trip with Durham, come by either Bar-King-Mad or Bar Chez Boo Boo early in the week and we can meet up for a chat and a beer. If you and your mates also 'do have all the gear' or are willing to hire it Toofy Grin allanm, wink then maybe some of us will invite you out for a bit of free riding. Send me a PM if you are interested. But we do hate NO-Shows because you drank to much the night before. Most of us were students once and know what these trips can be like. Have fun anyway. Les Arcs is a great place for freeriding. Toofy Grin

thefatcontroller, Just saw your post. The Comborciere is as you say, planned to be upgraded in a couple of years and the Pre the following year, but I have heard there is 'talk' of it being brought forward. I have know idea if the gossip is true.

I do not think you will go on them very often, but the beginner chairs in Arc 1600, 1800, Vallandry and Arc 2000 (nearly forgot that one) are also really slow, but I agree the two you mentioned are by far the worst and really need replacing as soon as possible. Although I think the two lower chairs over in Villaroger are really old as well, plus the Colcheret and the other one near the Transarc, somebody will remember the name I am sure.

I wish they would just do them all at once and then it would be great (dreaming rolling eyes ). Twisted Evil

My thought on Les Arcs lifts...

Think I'll find anther resort if and when they upgrade Comborciere....

Pre S Esprit need updating first, to keep more off Comborciere.

Gd Renard (at side of mid TA) is fine, although I've been caught out as it is closed on saturdays.

66 in Valandry is awful - that should be updated next - it's not a pleasant embarkation especially for beginners. Additionally, it's slow and you're paying money to sit on that lift.

Gd Col, I guess would be the one they should update after that.

Lifts from Villaroger are all fine and part of a 'day out'.

allanm, I agree with you about the Grand Col lift, it can be really slow and stops to much. I know why you do not want Comborciere upgraded, but with the new Mont Blanc lift the secret will get out very quickly this season I fear. Do not agree about Gr Renard (I new someone would tell me the name), it is slow and cold, plus it hits you in the calfs if you do not pay attention. Valandry beginners chair, yes that is the one, horrible. In some ways I understand what you are saying about villaroger, but it would be better to get back up more quickly on powder days. Just think we could do those runs twice in a morning, now that would make your legs burn snowHead

snowcrazy, They ain't going to upgrade the three lifts from Villaroger in a hurry - rarely queued except apres lunch in February - would cost megabucks for no real added value.

Grand Col is the one - it's a key lift in the resort, and, they should do something about 'landscaping' the run down from the TA, it's a real PITA for boarders especially.

I assume then from the new MB lift you can cut right (hs) into M at the bottom of the cliff? Difficult to tell form the pictures I've seen.

Hi snowcrazy, is it ok with you if I let you know nearer the time what my plans for the week are? I'm on a working year abroad at the moment so am a bit out the loop with what is happening when we are in resort. Would love to ski with some people who know the area well. Don't worry about me being a no-show, after a season at Scotty's I'm used to making the first lift after a night in Saloon.

I'm pretty sure we'll be in those bars pretty early in the week anyway (you know how uni trips are). Are they two of the main bars in resort? Or more "seasonaire favourites"?

Cheers.

allanm, Talking of the Vallandry lift - it can go really fast! I saw it in the summer, going faster than i've ever seen it in the winter! Maybe it just needs a bit of warmth! Or maybe they keep it running slow for their own special reasons rolling eyes Being short, I dont find a problem with getting on & off it, but I've travelled up with tall friends who have found getting off quite a strain on their thighs after sitting for a while & getting cold.

Gd Renard I love - once I'm safely on & if there's only one other on it with me. It can be a bit of a squeeze for 3 - specially if the other 2 have rucksacks Skullie

Some pictures from Arc1950 yesterday.

So as you can see, the water in the pond in 1950 is frozen, so it is cold ( -5 C overnight in Bourg) , but also very sunny and gorgeous. Snow level in the 2000 bowl down to about 2200 is my guess, but as you can see facing the other way, the Arpette / Bois de L'Ours is still an emerald green.

As snowcrazy said, I was not applying for the job, I was doing the interviews and assessment exercises along with various other notables from 1950. Long day - into the village for an 8am start, finished about 6:30pm, then drove back to Geneva to catch the 7:30am flight back to the UK for a full day today's in the office , which also didn't finish until about 6:30. Am slightly jaded.

And I'm not sure it is a dream job! Although the money is relatively good, the hours are long, and the only time I got to ski with the incumbent last year was early one morning, before all the proverbial hits the fan in running the village.

Experienced the French sector of Geneva car hire as well (the car was booked by the resort on our behalf, and the prices appear to be astronomically different right now according to them), but jeez what a pain. Both directions in darkness, wee bit of a strain.
Thank goodness I took the sat-nav with us to get back through the city without touching the motorway. But shan't be doing that again in a hurry.

Found a great restaurant in Bourg - where we stayed on Sunday night - the Kosy. Just down from the station on the main road to the supermarches. LHS. Was recommended by the hotel (we were in l'Autantic): turns out is run by friends of friends, so got a little discount too!

But well priced, and a good selection of foods and wines. Don't normally put words in for food places as they tend to be personal choices, but we really liked this one.

Great to be back tho', if only for a day indoors!

At least not until the development of Villaroger commences - should be several hundred beds down there within the next few years.....and Michel is strongly rumoured to be putting La Ferme up for sale at the end of the coming season too.....but then what would I know, seeing as how the oracle of all things Les Arcs (Snowcrazy) is not the source of this information....

Anyone know what they're building in Plan-Peisey - No 45 on the map just below vanoise hotel - http://www.peisey-vallandry.com/www-plan_planpeisey-581-HIVER-UK-PEISEY_VALLANDRY.html

I didn't see any development when I was there in february - and whilst it was rumoured a couple of years ago that there would be more development on that location, does the map suggest this is actually underway/completed?

Hi everyone, for those interested in news of the new Mont Blanc Chair in Arc 1600. They have been running the safety tests and all looks well. The chair is now almost finished. The Cachette Chair now has the entrance on the opposite side facing away from this lift to encourage all those from the Funi to use the new lift. Interesting idea.

Now this is finished. Please let it snow. If you want to see the photos, please go to my 'Les Arcs Winter' facebook page, link below. Thanks to the man with the dogs for the photos and info.

bertie bassett, it looked like yet another building development during the summer, as if there are not enough already. Will see what it looks like in a few weeks time unless someone in Peisey right now has seen the current situation.

Snowcrazy, thanks for the photographs. They have doen quite a lot of landscaping around the bottom of Cachette and made the Mount Blanc the obviious target from the Funicular. Not sure if the shorter entry from the centre of Arc 1600 will persuade me to walk through the village or wether I will continue using the Combette and skiing down (I must be the only person who even noticed the Gollet going). It might make the area in front of the Cascade apartments a bit dangerous.

Do you happen to have this season's piste map you could post?
