Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Better than a hat in tight trees!

(oh, and more effective at protecting against spyderman attacks in the lift lines)

Those who didn't wear one have all died, have they not?, at the time before the helmet was invented.

saikee, that's excellent, can I claim on my own life insurance?

Mass helmetisation has been one of the greatest marketing stunts in the history of the sport. Discuss.

I can crawl off the mountain with one leg, maybe even no legs. I can break an arm, or two arms, and fracture my hip, and slide off the mountain on my own. Maybe if the worst came to the worst I could shout for help!

However, if I am unconscious because I banged my head too hard, then I would just have to hope that there are other people on the mountain who

1. see me lying there not moving
2. realise that I am injured and not just having a rest
3. do something about it rather than ski by thinking someone else will get involved

Also, I banged my head on ice and was unconscious on a piste on my own. Luckily, I survived that bang and lived to tell the tale. Maybe I would not be so lucky the next time!

To stop my goggles from misting up when I lift them up, or at least thats why I started to wear a helmet, wouldn't dream of not wearing one now for all the obvious reasons.

Rocks that aren't covered by snow and trees, originally
Setting an example for my kids, added up later
Less fogging of goggles, side benefit

btw, i find that a nice, fashionable, good quality hat is not going to be significantly cheaper than a helmet (mine was 80 euros), so i don't think I see where the marketing ploy lies

Nearly eighty fecking euro for a hat. When's the last time you went shopping for a hat? The year 2087?

Everyone should wear a helmet, all the time, everywhere, no matter what they're doing. The other day I was pissed and fell over and hit my head on a chair. How I wish I'd been wearing a helmet. rolling eyes Oh well, that's life.

two years ago bought a hat for the wife in resort. Quite a sticker shock. Ended paying 40 euros and it was far from the expensive end

I wear a helmet
- to keep my mother happy
- because it stops my goggles from fogging
- because I can control the temperature better (vents)
- because it might stop me from breaking my head

I seem to have hit my head more since I started wearing one though. Have I got more reckless with a false sense of security?

In volume terms your head is neraly 100% bigger wearing a helmet, this is hardly surprising.

I don't wear a helmet on my head when skiing because they are
Hot
Sweaty
Itchy
Irritating
Cumbersome
They attenuate my peripheral senses
I look like a pint
I've gone 60+ weeks of skiing without needing one
I would be more likely to be skied into if I wore one
I would be more likely to crash if I wore one
Some self righteous "types" (being very polite there) keep telling me I should wear one
Minor injuries and bumps are less unpleasant than wearing a helmet
if I'm dead then I'm not around to worry about it.

Why would I wear a helmet
Theres a slim chance of being permanently disabled, not dead, not alive, not nice.

How many hours did it take you to conjure up that twaddle?
How do you know you'll be more likely to be skied into if you wore a helmet?
How would you know you'll be more likely to crash if you wore a helmet?
Because you've never worn a helmet, how would you know.
And finally, what do you mean that you look like a pint - a pint of what? Milk? Beer? cider.. whatever.. rolling eyes
