RD is sill current. Consider Titan, absolute winner last season for piste carving with all mountain capabilities. ispeed if you like fast piste skiing.

Not many people likely to stock them in the UK either, I got my GS RD Head skis from http://www.skibartlett.com/index.asp who specialise is race kit, though I believe there may be one or two others out there that do the same

Thanks, found these at Severn Sports, they have the Head World Cup iSL SW, would they be similar to the iSL RD?
D G Orf, thought was struggling in my quest, the guy who runs the ski shop does the Head test, and buys up the test stock
gilleski, just to double check that I have the right ones, I presume its the iSupershape Titan
Rushing this post as Mrs R doesn't think I need new ski's, little does she know

radar, no, there's a big difference between the SW and RD versions. The SW is the 'retail' version of the ski and will be much softer than the RD which is the 'race' version.
The full name for the Titans is iSupershape Titan.

radar, I've skied pretty much all of them, the RD version compared to the SW is a lot more precise, much stiffer and a lot less forgiving. needs a lot more work. it is after all a Race Department ski, rather than a punter version.
I have a pair of iSupershape which is basically a really tight turning carver, it's radius is illegal for race use, but fantastic fun on piste, also a pair of iSupershape Titan, which are go anywhere, any speed, any conditions, again fantastic skis.
For me unless your using them for racing or bullet hard pistes, the iSupershape would be more fun on piste or the iTitan if you wanted an all rounder.

Spyderman, Loved the RD suited me really well, felt really good on the hard stuff and over ice, found the Titan's at Europa Ski Lodge, can't find anyone selling the iSupershape any suggestions. Found your previous thread as well very useful

radar, RD is perfect for hard pack and ice, it's where they live, but that's where it ends. They'd be a nightmare in other conditions.
I'd contact HEAD UK and ask which retailers are taking them this year.

Spyderman, not strictly true, whilst the RD skis are truly at home on hard pack and icy pistes, for a very limited number of people they may work well elsewhere, in my case I'm a very overweight blob but with strong leg muscles, thus RD skis perform for me in the same way that more normal skis may perform for those half my weight. In fact my Head i GS RD (not sure if that's the correct version but close enough) are probably the best skis I've ever had actually giving me far more confidence in my on piste ability, but they are heavy and unforgiving, you need to have not only the strength to use them but also the experience, or I suspect they will chew you up and spit you out

D G Orf, I can't think of anywhere else I'd want to ski a Race Department Slalom Ski apart from a hard pack piste or ice. There are better options for normal holiday use no matter how much you weigh. Sure if you'd tried the RD and conditions were boiler plate you might think they were the best things since sliced bread, but get soft snow, slush or powder and it'll be a different story.
iTitan's do pretty much the whole package, obviously not the grip and agility on hard pack/ice as the RD, but still immense amounts of grip available, but you can take them off-piste, in powder, in slush, in bumps and they're perfectly happy. I know that because that's exactly what I've done with mine and I'm no lightweight either.

Spyderman, personal preference I guess, though I don't like skiing Heavy slush at any time , other than that I found my skis were very good on well groomed piste even with a bit of fresh powder on top and excellent on hard pack and ice when other people were having real problems staying upright. Maybe they just suit my old school techniques and bad habits better than some other skis.
Mind you I wouldn't try skiing deep powder in them, that would be a bad idea

If no retailer is taking them into stock and they've got a pair left, how about trying to buy them direct on a pro forma basis. It's not undercutting a retailer as they weren't selling them anyway.

Hi, sorry, but as a Head dealer, and a Head skier, that isn't an ISL or a race department ski i think. It hass a cloned printed top sheet, to LOOK like the race dept skis. I see these a lot in resorts too. The give-away is the printed intelligence plate rather than the intelligence plate being a metal integrated badge (the two diamond shapes) The LiquidMetal badge, if it was LiquidMetal equipped is also a metal logo that sits proud of the top sheet and is integrated into the design.
They do this to the junior world cup skis too, to give a mimic look of the adult version, which is why it is £250 or so cheaper! This might even be the junior version as I think they actually take them up to 165cm. It looks very similar to your pic. Note that the Intelligience prongs on this ski are printed too, its just an updated graphic as your photo is an 09/10 model http://www.edgeandwax.co.uk/2003/products/head_worldcup_sl_team_junior_skis_and_bindings.aspx
If I am right this ski will ski nothing like a World Cup or an iSL ski, it may just about be wood core, but being a rental version, has thicker bases and edges. If you actually wanted a close equivalent there isnt really a direct one, but it would have been the 2010-2011 TT20 ski which had the same kind of feel and geometry.
The real deal, the World Cup iSL, or for that matter the Magnum or the Titan (My current ski, LOVE it) are much stiffer and more aggressive than the ski in the photo, but are all fantastic skis. But if you are after the same feel under foot it wont be those skis I feel. The iSL is damn stiff in my opinion with the Speed Plate. A new ski for this season, the X-Shape, takes the Magnum/Titan idea but loses the CHIP technology and is a little softer(just), and all three of us that tested that ski thought it was a total winner and gave the Titan a run for its money. The X-Shape comes in two flavours, STX and MTX and will be in stores this fall, we have ordered big on them as we loved those skis as much as the Magnums and Titans. I lent some of the X-Shapes to people staying with us in the chalet at end of season, and there was universal praise for them from all ski levels, so I would say take a look at that one.
And we have ordered the Supershapes, I think the guy at Head (Tim normally) is referring to the last season and we stocked them. Sold out though, but if I am right, and pretty sure I am, chalk and cheese skis.
Hope this helps,
ScottyDog

so who doesnt love their Titans ? (I know i do !!)
scottydog, lots of good points but a big one most people overlook is the type of plate on a race ski. A VIST one will be a lot stiffer than say the stock one they put on titans and ISL's and will really change the feel of a ski. I tried the same version of RC4's side by side with two different plates and was amazed how different they skied...
I think your right , those may be junior skis in the photos, all the kids at hemel have the junior model and it is the one with spray on chip thing
ps have some iSL RD's on order cant wait...

Yes, its a lovely ski, you need to be on your A-game to get the best out of them but when you are it is effortless. Blasted a set down Saulire in Courchevel right before a French Fed race, and they were stunning. Enjoy!

scottydog, thanks, now more to think about, I know the guys seasonably well, he's an instructor and also runs a small ski shop in the hotel that I stay at, I asked if he had anything similar to the volkl superspeed 6 star(which i tried a few years ago and loved) and he suggested the Head ones in the picture, the supershapes ant the titan do appeal
